Stokes is deluded if he thinks he'll be fit for a Test series after knee surgery.

Why?

It depends rather on what the issue is, and how extensive the surgery necessary. But many knee issues recover very quickly after surgery, and 8 weeks would be plenty for those.

I had knee suregery a few years ago, and was back morris dancing 4 weeks later. That wqs probably more minor than whatever Stokes needs, but he will have much more Physio and specialist aftercare than I had.

He should have done this months ago!

depends on the surgery, a knee replacement clearly not, a key hole type scrape of cartilage maybe.

he should have missed this tournament and done it. In white ball cricket his value is as an all rounder, he's not consistently a good enough batter to be given a specialist batting place, despite being occasionally brilliant with the bat.

Morris dancing, seriously?

Whatever he needs done is clearly serious. He can barely move!

He shouldn't have been allowed to play in this tournament. I don't blame him entirely but his presence hasn't helped.

Yes. I have mentioned it a few times here.

It doesn't need to be serious to have that effect. A small piece of detached cartilage will do that - I couldn't straiten my knee and needed a stick to walk with prior to my surgery.

I'd agree with this though.

He should have taken the time of this tournament to get it sorted. While 8 weeks may well be enough to rrecover, more time would obviously have been better, and he really didn't bring anything useful here.

I've no problem with you Morris dancing, I phrased that poorly. Four weeks to return to Morris dancing is nowhere near like going back to playing Test cricket.

I like Stokes, I do, but he's being daft. Reminds me a bit of Murray and his dogged determination to keep going when he's clearly done.

You do a lot more jumping around and twisting/turning in Morris dancing than you do playing cricket, but I agree it is not at anything like the same level of intensity.

But as I said, I was back after only four weeks, with one hour a week of physio (plus doing the exercises they told me to of course), while he will have twice as long, and probably several hours per day of hands on physio.

It does depend a lot on how extensive the surgery is, of course, but I can see it being perfectly possible to be back playing 8 weeks after it.

That's the thing though, he's not said what the surgery is for. Obviously that's entirely his decision, but I don't see why he'd be so secretive about it if it wasn't something serious, or even potentially career ending.

Would I like to see him play again? Of course. At the expense of his health and the team? No.
