That's what I was thinking about .

I don't think this little spat is in the same class though. Unlike the underarm incident, they won't be talking about it for decades to come.

Bodyline and the Chappells' underarm are out in a class of their own.

Then in the next league is the Aussies sandpaper and Hansie Cronje's match fixing.

I think this one is maybe on a par with Mike Atherton's dirt-in-the-pocket incident. Something to get a bit riled about and then forget.

... unless you're Stuart Broad.

[Hopefully ... in reality I think he'll move on pretty quickly. But I'd love to see more of his over-the-top indignance and angry sarcasm! ]

Well, no. It's a weird term that generally seems to have cropped up to appease old duffers who think they had it better in their day or something.

Anyway, having reflected on the Bairstow dismissal, aye he was a bit daft, but it's something he's tried before too so, I dunno. It's like that stumping thing you can do when the non striker is walking down.

Legal, but a total dick move.

Your right Bairstow got form for this the 3 balls before he was stumped he'd done the same thing. In the only match he's been fit for and as it suited them the ECB giving permission to play for Yorkshire this year only weeks ago. Be it for the 2rd's he was given out doing the same thing he was only saved by the other side withdrawing the appeal.

He was out end of, as a player you never assume the ball is dead until you really know it is. He's looks to be getting a bit cocky these days something his dad never was.

Rules or not, thought it was a sh1tty thing to do. Probably wouldn't of won anyway, as they'd probably just of thrown their wickets away if this didn't happen. The incident fired-up Stokes obviously. Guess you'll never know..

It's a shame England can't use a bit of common sense at times. If Australia are the best test team in the world, really don't think England are far away from them at all. Certainly not beaten by a large margin in either match. Shame Anderson seems to be doing very little, guess it's lifeless pitches possibly, hopefully not on his way out,

Decent insight into the way England are approaching things:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/66002650

As for Anderson, I've been saying for a while that I think he's done. But then he has a habit of picking up wickets/putting in the occasional brilliant performance that sees him getting selected.

I've been thinking the same about Anderson, he can't go on forever he's got to stop at some point and I think he's past that point.

Did you watch this test? The Aussies did at least 12 stupid things.

That's sport - especially over 5 days - get used to it. The score is the score, it includes mistakes, genius, boring play, brave play ... and then 1 team wins. (Usually Australia, sadly!)

We won ONE test in 17 using "common sense" / proper cricket / whatever ...

I Always thought the great Freddie Trueman was old for a fast bowler when he retired aged 37 and Jimmy is nearly 41.
He will know when it's time to retire and i suspect it could be this Season.

He really does need to call it a day. I think Broad shouldn't be too far behind him either. I know that there are quality replacements waiting for their chance, and an Ashes series probably isn't the deep end to throw them in to, but the longer we rely on Anderson and Broad, the more it harms the side.

Anyone still moaning about the Extras count will love this analysis from Zaltzman:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The numerical facts are that England have scored 1260 runs off the bat to Australia's 1245.

After Stokes' eight-wickets-down declaration and Australia's two-wicket win at Edgbaston, followed by a 40-wicket second Test (only the fourth Lord's Ashes Test out of 37 in which all possible wickets have fallen), both sides have lost 38 wickets.

Thus, England's batting line-up has a collective average of 33.1, Australia's 32.7.

England have, however, conceded 60 more extras than Australia (118 to 58), leaving them 45 runs behind in total, accounting for the 43-run margin at Lord's and the two runs by which the Baggy Greensters overtook England at Edgbaston.

England are the 274th team in men's Test history to find themselves 2-0 down after two Tests of a series.

As you would probably expect, none of the previous 273 had a higher collective batting average after those two Tests than the opposition against whom they have lost consecutive matches (and only a handful have come close).
