I am rather partial to rocket, but I wouldn't count on finding it at the cafe in Glasson Dock!

I will probably be boring and have egg/beans on toast and maybe a piece of cake. I will bring a couple of nibbles with me in case I decide to ride all the way home and need extra fuel.

Ey oop Colin... I've held back from joining this thread for not knowing my movements on the 29th but now I have a clearer idea. We have our belated office Xmas dinner in Manchester the night before and I'm staying at an hotel in Salford but IF I can get away on Saturday morning with a clear head I will join you at 10.00 at Spring Wood - maybe with GTI Junior in tow.

According to a poster at Preston Railway Station, the rail line from Burnley to Todmorden re-opens on Monday 24 as they have apparently fixed the tunnel.

I've made enough cakes and pasta for the first 10 miles. But unsure what will happen after that.....

Not sure if I'm the first, (big thread now), but hopefully I will be the last, so I'm going to declare myself out I'm afraid.

Today's ride showed my fitness up, well the ruddy wind did over just 36 miles!

I'm disappointed in myself for not putting the miles in as this ride sounds like one that'll go down in CC history.

Hopefully Colin you're fitness will go from strength to strength and this ride will open the floodgates so I can jump on one later in the year.

Ride safe guys and gals

I'm still in

Still nervous about the big climb... but I'm in.

If they have the forecast right then we should have a cross/tailwind all the way to Glasson Dock, which means that the climb of the Trough will be wind-assisted!

The astute among you may well be thinking that that implies a cross-headwind on the way back, which is true, but that will be on the easier terrain, and we may get some shelter from the fells to our left as we ride back.

The worst wind would be on the south-easterly drag up from the M6 to Longridge. After that, we get a good downhill and a bit more shelter.

Stay at home if you are injured, ill or genuinely think you can't make it (and if so, sorry - see you next time?), but there will be a group averaging only 8-10 mph so don't let your slow speed put you off!

If all goes well, I will definitely organise something else in a couple of months time.

I am going to go out and do a lumpy ~50 miler tomorrow, and try and get another 50 miles worth of riding in between Tuesday and Thursday. I think how I feel doing that lot will determine whether I try to ride from Hebden Bridge on the 29th, or cheat and catch a train to/from Burnley or Accrington.
