But so worth it Jo, I grew up less than 2 miles from where the ride starts and still get a buzz every time I come back. Really tremendous scenery and tough riding if you want it, not that this ride is but you get a flavour of it when we cross the Trough. Spent all my teenage years [not that long ago ] riding my bike in the area around Pendle, certainly where I learnt to climb hills.
I hope we get a day where the views are not restricted, however there is a saying in those parts, "if you can see Pendle it's going to rain, if you can't, it's raining".
Hope your trip is a good one and we will see you there.
It's not a part of the country I'm at all familiar with, even by reputation, so I'm looking forward to exploring some uncharted territory.

One of the more anal things I am into is tracking the jet stream [don't ask] and the current prediction is that at least it is not going to be very cold. Will keep monitoring.
I remember you mentioning the jet stream on another forum ride. For some reason, I had never heard about its influence on our climate until you told me, but it is obviously one of the most important factors.

If it were a choice between mild, damp and murky, & blue skies, dry and cold, I would go for the blue skies any day, providing that there was not any ice about.

hi Colin
How many waypoints are in the GPX files in post 1 above please? IIRC the works GPS I am going to 'borrow' is limited to 500 waypoints per track which isn't a lot. However I know the terrain well enough so will bring paper maps along for TEC duties.

If the ride turns out anything like our more popular club runs there is a 'friendly' breakaway about 3 miles before the cafe so the speedsters can form the front of the queue...

@coffeejo donchoo worry we will see you right, cake cake cake!

If there's no cake left by the time I get there, saddles will be swapped and brakes will be locked firmly on! :giggle:

The waypoint limit is a good point - I have the same problem with my Etrex. I am using my tablet now, but when I switch to my laptop later, I will check, and if necessary, simplify the files. (I usually start off with detailed tracks to get accurate numbers for the distances and elevation profiles, then reduce the data points to junctions and enough 'via' points for the breadcrumb trails to at least vaguely follow the roads.)

The cakes limit is also a good point! I will phone the cafe and tell them that 25-50 of us are likely to descend on them early-afternoon on the 29th, exact numbers probably depending on the weather!

You mean....they may run out of cake!!! I may have to consider bringing some emergency cake provision as a fall back plan!

I have been there once or twice in the past on the Red Rose Ride audax, but I can't remember much about the cafe. I think I had a chip butty rather than cake.

I just found another cafe not far from Glasson Dock - the Cafe d'Lune at Condor Green. It is only 3/4 mile from the Lantern o'er Lune and looks nice, but I think things will get complicated if we start splitting up over 2 cafes and a pub. Maybe if the queues are horrendous at the Lantern cafe, some of us could nip over to the other one?
