If I came along, I'd start at the front and gradually pass back along the group. Probably within about 5 minutes.
TBH - I am quite looking forward to seeing how fit I can get in the next 11 weeks. If I end up feeling really good, then I know I will be tempted to put in a few bursts of speed here and there.

I have the advantage of being at my lightest since 2006, but the disadvantage of my past 18 months of health problems which have caused lingering damage. I don't know what I will be capable of, but I am already enjoying being able to cycle again and contemplate rides like this. Any extra fitness will be a nice bonus!

I have ridden with over 100 different CC riders and there are people already signed up that I have not yet ridden with before so if we keep alerting everybody we can think of, we could end up with an absolutely massive group, which I don't really fancy.

Why not impose an 'entry fee' on the Southern Softies ? (They can best afford it !)

You could always impose a charge, on those who live outside Yorkshire . . . Oh wait ! . . .

Make that, you could impose a charge on those who have never lived in Yorkshire.

Just buy my book.

If I ever finish it ...

10 pages already and it is still more than two months away! Is there is a forum award in the event that the column inches of the thread exceed the ride distance?
I confess that I was thinking about that this afternoon!

My original intention was to drop a few hints about the ride, get people to pencil in the date, and then forget about it until the start of March.

I'll write the route sheet for the return leg, post that and then shut up for a while unless other people keep asking questions!

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
I was hoping to join you but ... my kids have Stagecoach exams that day plus we've now got a wedding to attend.

So: enjoy the ride and I hope no-one gets lost / has mechanicals / etc.

hi all
Had a swing by Whalley and Spring Wood Car Park on Sat'day. There is no lockable barrier at the car park. There is a barrier over the top of the entrance, height 2m, although that has been opened so at the moment there is no height restriction!
According to the ranger there, the toilets are left open. And as Colin says, there is a hose tap in the men's.

oh and there is a small LBS in Whalley, on King Street (main street). It looks very new and clean and like it is aimed towards the MAMIL market. Dodn't go in so not sure how good it is, but if anyone needs spares, it is good that it is there.

re numbers, I bet people will drop out nearer the date!

The Selby Three Swans Sportive has just been announced for this year it is on the 31st of August.

There are 3 distance options and prices as follows:

160km / 100m £25.00
96km / 60m £20.00
8km / 30m £15.00

I did it last year and it is the best sportive I have done, the signing is excellent there are 4 or 5 food stops with loads of Bananas, oat bars and tubs of haribo and plenty of water to refill bottles. You also get a nice t-shirt and they provide timing chips so you can see what time you did.

Also if you dont like hills last year it was as flat as a flat thing.
