If you have not got a dozen overgrown trees of your own then I think wood (not split into nice logs) is worth next to nothing as the value is in the time it takes to split so perhaps worth contacting all the local tree men or farmers to see if you can get some cheap or free trees from them.

My cousin makes quite a good living by being paid by farmers to cut down unwanted trees which he then logs and sells as firewood. Effectively paid twice for the same job.

Well, I see SOME of you are taking it seriously....;)

Waffles, I think Mr Paul was alluding to:

Pease Pudding hot,
Pease Pudding cold,
Pease Pudding in the pot,
Nine days old....

All the wood burning tips are great, but alas only if you have a house with a facility for burning wood....

Im not sure about the teabag/loose tea thing. As I understand it (I read it once) the fannings (that's the proper term for them) that make up teabags are mostly the edges of the leaves that chip off in the drying process, and are more concentrated than loose tea leaves (the oils are concetrated in the edges). So you get more brew for less weight of tea. Assuming that isn't a)wrong or  outdated. I suppose to test, one would have to calculate the number of cups to be made per £1 for each type....

Having just stocked up on PGTips when Morrisons had 240 bags half price, it'll be a while before I need to buy more.

Why are Teabags sold in odd numbers like 80, 160 and 240? Why not 100, 200 etc?

S'obvious innit?

Eightea
One hundred and sixtea
2 hundred and for tea?

Of course. Why didn't I think of that?

Chuffy, I DO have a storm kettle, so I suppose With a suitable heatproof surface to put it on, I could boil water. But I suspect I'd set the fire alarm off in a big way....

That's what gaffer tape was invented for. ;)

How very appropriate...;)

I believe that a mark of a serious person is that, when left alone in a room with a tea-cosy, they don't put in on their head. Such a person should be shunned by polite society.

Chuffy

Did I read this correctly?

I.e. the serious person, one who doesn't put the tea cosy on their head, should be shunned by polite society.

Fair enough too :tongue::biggrin::biggrin:

Is it just me or is it a noteworthy event to smell a real fire in the towns nowadays ?

Commonplace when I was a kid to see the chimneys going on private houses, but certainly not now.

Err.. Arch... I hate to be the one to point this out, but 80, 160 & 240 *are* even numbers...

You know what I mean.... Odd as in unusual, not rounded to the nearest hundred, that sort of thing, not odd as in 1,3,5 etc....

Yes. You have clearly understood the meaning of my post. These things are very important.
