How terrible of you not to buy the UK one's, buy British should include the words, regardless of cost.

To be fair, at the time, no one would have known what PPE was.

Not so, although it wasn’t referred to as such. There was plenty of kit like ear defence, goggles etc. in industry but no compulsion to use it, hence legions of workers who were active before HSW 1974 with lung problems, hearing loss and other problems.

…why did we have to have passports when we were allowed 'free movement' when we were in the EU?🤔

The UK has always refused identity cards; and refused to take up membership of the Schengen Area — the EU's passport-free zone which uses ID cards to liberate pan-European travel. As we now move towards joining the EU, it seems to me that Schengen membership is an important part of the membership package, along with integration into the euro zone, complete metrication and a serious commitment to giving our children foreign language proficiency. The mindset of derogation (such as staying out of Schengen) is the mindset of detachment: when we join the EU we need to be at the heart of it and working wholeheartedly for it.
