My heating has been 'on' all summer, but the first time that the stat switched the boiler on was 19 days ago.

£13,000 is a long way from being a millionaire although, as you say, the machinations behind that are a discussion for another place.

As a practical matter, it will affect old folk. I've been helping one old boy I know move furniture about so if it is a cold one he can confine his activities to one room.

Yes, lots of collateral damage due to the failure af governments of all colours to make the Pension Credit taper instead of a cliff edge.

Does that help much unless the door is very insulating? Heated clothes seem a better emergency measure but it's all rather sad that it's coming to this.

Lives will be lost (more so it you live up north) and will put strain on the NHS with bronchitis, pneumonia ect.
Living down south I have done without heating for the past three years, this will be my forth, but my flat in well insulated with only ktichen and bathroom windows facing north, bedroom and lounge face south.

I will be away from home a lot over the next few weeks so the heating is not going on yet.
I do have a calor gas heater which gets turned on for a short while if the house gets too cold but that is only a temporary measure. There has not been too much wind recently which helps to stop the house cooling too much tho' it is insulated and reasonably draught proof.

If all else fails I can go sit in the camper and use the Webasto heater to keep warm.

I was reading about one family who had to do that. Following a storm they were without power for a few days so retreated to their solar augmented camper for heat and power for their work laptops.

I did put my CH on for a couple of hours yesterday evening.
It's on just now, but will be switched off in about an hour.
Every year I want to resist until October, but I never make it!

Put the coal effect electric stove on for a couple of hours to take the chill off. The high winds mean that our electricity will only cost about 2p per kWh overnight so I've set the immersion heater to come on in the early hours and the home battery to charge. Might leave the stove on a low setting so the house is warm in the morning.
