Heating related, sort of.

The new Drago Towers has some large garden doors with large floor to ceiling windows each side.

Looks classy, as befits a classy guy such as myself, but I've discovered a problem. The slightest whiff of afternoon sunshine beams through a d turns the living room into a furnace.

It has fitted aircon, but while it works very well it struggled as the room is being simultaneously heated while the AC is trying to cool it. The effect is like having the AC on with the fire lit. Troublesome.

Blinds or curtains woukd do the job, but they have their own drawbacks. Curtains are old fashioned, blinds fiddle and expensive, and I don't want to blot out the garden view every time the sun comes out.

So after some hese scratching I'm having solar film fitted. It'll cut out up to 80% of the solar heating effect, while retaining about 95% visibility looking out. An added bonus it acts as a privacy film and prevents folk looking in from outside (not that we're at all overlooked), even at night with the interior lights on. I'll let you know how it goes once fitted.

The Billy bonus of the AC is being able to run it in reverse, so during t the winter I can very inexpensively heat the lounge instead of the whole house while I'm home aline during the day.

Our big front windows are solar reflective - built in.

It is very hard to see through them from outside but look perfectly normal from the inside.

We wish we had it on the whole house tbh.

Will also be interested in how the film install goes.

The solar effect in our house is a positive

We get a lot of sun through the patio doors in the mornings and this means that even in winter we often don;t need the CH on in the mornings
Once the SUn goes round to the side - where there are no windows - the house tends to cool down

In our case opening the windows cool the place down if it gets too hot in summer
we certainly never need air con - and probably wouldn;t have it anyway
we make do with several fansin heat waves

Sadly its just too much in an A rated house. The dog does a small fart and the temperature rises by a degree.

what about if you so a small fart???

to be fair - when I had a dog at times when she farted the temperature dropped quite a bit
but that was due to all the windows and doors being opened!!!!

that was always at my parent's house and I suspect it was caused by things that happened in the kitchen when my Mum was cooking and for some reason my normally loyal and attentive dog abandoned me and was to be found watching my Mum very carefully!

That's the same as this dining room I'm in, with a WSW facing French window it alternates between too cold and too hot as the sun goes in and out.
