Apparently, it's a competition they once ran!
I don't think it actually went into space, though...

The winner was Robbie Alan Hanshew, a 13-year-old from Portland, Oregon. It was delivered to him by rail (rather than the Super Guppy) and was donated to the Oregon Museum of Science Industry (OMSI) where it remains on display today

It’s good that the prize existed. I like the Pepsi Harriet Jump Jet competition.

Good god - those Americans will call their kids anything.:ohmy:
Like "Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho"?

Wait until "corporate sponsorship" works its way down from roads, event venues, and stadiums to 'sponsoring' parents to name their children in return for a lump sum. You'd see kids named "Tesco Ansells Volkswagen" or "Aldi Rothmans Guinness" then.

Or my daughter, Mercedes.

Lots of girls named "Lexus" or "Porsche" in the 'states nowadays, after the cars. I think that originally started with "adult entertainment" performer names, going mainstream

When Gottleib Daimler passed away Emil Jellinek replaced him at Daimler-Benz. He and Karl Benz renamed the company, but instead of "Jellinek-Benz" (or vice versa), Jellinek used his daughter's name, Mercedes, instead of his own. Mostly. The two "e"s in her name were accented with an aigu and a grave, but the corporate version used plain "e"s.

@Conrad_K, @Chris S

My daughter went to Prep School (as they called it, & an odd name for Yorkshire!!) with twins
I think dad was a heavy metal fan, who liked fast VWs (but mum liked Shakespeare)
Saxon & Portia………..

There was also in her year group, & somewhere we have a school photograph that has all the names on it, a Minnie Cooper
Such cruel parents
