I agree, Matticus, the snowglobe/fishbowl one reminded me very much of Larson as well. Have loved his toons and quirkiness forever. Do you also call them snowglobes over in the UK?
My friend and I have been pondering this one… what is your take on it? (If any.) I’ll share my thoughts tomorrow. Anyone else want to weigh in?

That is quite often what Larson cartoons are showing up - the pointlessness of some aspirations or feelings.

I remember a meeting where the supposed Chair was a project leader and was the highest ranking person there (see later)

there was some discussion about the best way to continue with the project (IT department) and he - very authoritatively - declared that, as the highest ranking person there - he was decideding that we would go with Option A - which I had been saying was risky and would lead to lots of problems - but he was ordering me to follow his instructions

I mentioned, in passing, that
a) I was from a different department so he couldn't order me to do anything
b) actually - as it happened and just as a point of note - I was the same rank as him anyway (out department had higher ranks so we could be paid more!)

the look on his face was wonderful

issue was resolved by an email setting out my thoughts on the subject and the problems his solution would create
I copied in my boss (2 ranks higher than me - and therefore him) and hmy boss's boss (another 3 or 4 ranks higher than my boss)
The project leader's department was bigger and followed structure rank by rank - so I was copoying in the equivalent of his departmental manager - that he would never dare to communicate with directly!!


we did it my way - which worked!

(BTW - several other people in the meeting congratulated me on deflating his ego - they worked for him and were fed up with his attitude)
