turns out the "4WD temporarily unavailable" msgs, were related to a battery issue. confirmed after replacing it & testing the idea

Low battery can throw all sorts of error messages. I cleared half a dozen errors from my mates Merc van when he let his battery get low.

I tend to use Ctek battery maintainers for my vehicles parked up for long periods.

Talking of batteries, my Tesla informed me the 12V battery was in need of replacement. Service tech came to our home. Installed and setup

Paid £209 for repair and labour. I checked online the battery are using in my car. I couldn't even buy it for that price. No complaints

Just had an engine management light come on, scanned it and it's the fuel temperature sensor (VW Passat). I can see why:

Any ideas how to repair? There's barely any room to strip back and solder. I've got a replacement sensor but it's the connector unit that has failed

There should be enough on there to solder?

I've tried, i don't have anything to hold it with, nor anyone to help me. Also the pic makes the exposed wire look longer than it is. I'm trying to see if I can get a connector with pigtails so I can splice it in.

Get two small crocodile clips, then join them with a bit of thick gauge copper or steel rod in a U shape. These are your extra hands to hold the wires in place whilst soldering.

I've been given the job of servicing my wife's friends awful diesel insignia. Dead/dying battery, oil/filter, fuel filter and air filter to change. It also has glow plug issues which are £130 each! Its way past its cambelt change too.

I'm going to get it going, then pass her onto a garage. She needs the car almost daily, so don't want the hassle of time pressure. sorting the bigger jobs.
