It's a bit more complicated than that...
One additional rule: you must obey the Highway code at all times. No cheating by nipping across red lights or down pedestrian streets.

Whilst desirable, it's unenforceable.
However, the fact you have checked out a bike in one place and checked in at another without any cost on your Oyster card is provable

Therefore the challenge is on.

Can YOU beat Boris ?

Quick question to those who know the scheme - if I took a bike for under 30 mins, clocked it in and then took out another one, and kept doing this across london, would I be charged at all?

No, but I believe there is time limit between returning and hopping on another bike. IIRC, it's about 10-15mins. I could be talking nonsense though.

It is possible.
You need to wait at least 5 mins between docking one bike and leaving with the next (or even the same bike)

I was told at least 10mins, but that was before the scheme was operational. If you have to wait only 5 mins between docking and hopping on a bike, that's not too bad.

This is genius, although I'm a bit puzzled as to why it's in 'Commuting'.

We have a similar scheme in Cardiff; I may check it out

there is already some kind of a competition for the greatest A to B distance in the 'free' half hour - but I can't find the link.

Kensington Olympia to Royal London in half an hour...you could walk the bike to Addison Road, head south, get on the A4 and then go half right at HPC, then past Buck House to the Embankment, and up to Aldgate....

You'd have to pick your time. It would be horrible during the daytime, but it might just be do-able at night

I did ask one rider who said that he simply docked and then moved up the rack. He didn't mention a wait.
