What is the realistic top speed of one of these bad boys on a flat surface given the gearing, weight and an achievable cadence?

I reckon I got one up to somewhere in the region of 18mph or so. Will work out how to get the Cateye wireless onto one and let you know!

If you have an iphone/smart phone you can get quite a few apps that will do the job while in your pocket.

This is a long shot, but did any of you guys see the guys on boris bikes on the last stretch of the olympic road race yesterday?

Cruising at 22 for around 30mins. Good luck!

I know someone with a much heavier bike than the Boris bike, and who averaged 32.5mph over 12.8 miles. I think his bike is around 24kg. :P

p.s. sorry for the topic necromancy, but someone edited their post making this all new again.

Whilst desirable, it's unenforceable.
However, the fact you have checked out a bike in one place and checked in at another without any cost on your Oyster card is provable

Therefore the challenge is on.

Can YOU beat Boris ?

I cannot. I've tried. It's always level at the flag.

On the plus side, he's never beaten me either.
