Benefits of wearing a helmet

it hurts less banging my head with a helmet on than off.

To me this is very simple, but some prefer something more complex before taking the easy decision of wearing one or not

I would have no problem with you telling people you think its worth wearing one because it hurts less if you bang your head. Its where you try to tell them it will save them from injury or death that I have an issue.

It happens so rarely that I'm happy to just put up with the ouch element and give my head a rub if I do bang it.

Can one of these threads get past the 999 posts barrier?

Will one of these threads ever change anyone's mind?

They exist on other cycling forums as well. I wonder how many TB of server space is filled with the same circular, pointless, and above all tedious ramblings?

Long way to go to 15,000 posts over two years telling lies about the poster above. Or waste as much bandwidth as P&L did. We could of course have a discussion of Shimano or Campag, tying and soldering or cleaning chains ;)

David, I'm in complete ageement with you.

But... at the same time I am strangely drawn to these outpourings of inflexibabble.

It's like Speakers' Corner relocated into a David Lynch film.

Someone once said of Tony Benn that he was a brilliant mind driven quite mad by the relentless inflexibility of his own logic (or similar).

I don't know why that reference comes to me now....

Please don't start with the chain cleaning - anything but chain cleaning! *sobs*

I cleaned my chain once and because of that it didn't break and get tangled up in the cassette, which might have caused me to fall off and tumble down a 500ft cliff and land on the sharp rusted remains of an old wrecked trawler, get septicaemia and die. Keep cleaning that chain if you value your life!

EDIT: In fact, I might just go out and clean my chain now, using my new Lidl work stand!

I find if I apply a liberal application of WD40 to my helmet just before I have an accident, my helmet slides along the road much better, thus reducing the possibility of injury.

On the other hand, a liberal application of GT85 to my tyres means I'm more likely to have an accident in the first place.

So WD40 is good, GT85 is bad...
