Tesla tried to sell their truck on that basis too. Leaving aside that they have not as far as I know, ever demonstrated this in the real world, no-one cares how fast a truck can accelerate, but truck buyers are concerned with range, paypload, and refuelling time which strangely wasn't mentioned.

There is not one EV owner that I know who does not mention how amazingly quick their car is.

I am a long way from being anti-car but we really ought to be getting away from this high performance nonsense.

I don't. I just use it to get around. I am not bothered about hooning around the roads to get somewhere 2 minutes early.

Actually, we do. That comes with the territory for EVs and we do need more of them. It really is pointless complaining about the acceleration of EVs.
Sorry we don't, we need to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, the reliance on vehicles & for those that need to be on the road we need a sustainable method of power, electric is not the answer, or at least the current battery technology isn't.

Actually, we do. That comes with the territory for EVs and we do need more of them. It really is pointless complaining about the acceleration of EVs.

It doesn't have to come with the territory though - cars could have their rate of acceleration restricted.

In itself this would use up the planet's resources at a slower rate.

Surely that would be a good thing?

They could have the acceleration restricted, but that would add complexity and cost, and would give no real benefit,

That car will (all things being equal assuming 50% fossil fuel electricity.) be over twice as polluting as a ice supermini with 100hp.
Luckily we seldom go as high as 50% on fossil fuel. As I type 63.1% of energy is coming from non-fossil fuel sources. In the past year, 60% of energy has not been fossil We need to do better than this obviously, and get rid of the 5.1% biomass energy generation. But as we build more wind and solar, EVs get better. Your supermini will not.

No complexity at all, it can be set as a parameter in the control system, it's already in the software on FLT's, as for the acceleration, imagine if that Defender that went out of control into the school had been a fast accelerating 2 and a bit tonne EV ,it could have an impact of 90 to 100 MPH hitting those kids
