Are we being forced to go electric?

is that really a benefit? Not much of a future where all workers are in their own little cells and all interactivity is via Zoom. I do one day a week from home and that is enough, I like the intellectual stimulus of actually working with people.
Whilst I agree with you somewhat, try taking South West Rail for a year and you might see the benefit!!
On a more serious note, it does mean that I have a lot more day. Instead of getting up at 7, cycling 20 mins to the station, sitting on the train (if it arrives) for 30-40 mins then cycling another 30mis to the office and vice versa, I get up drop the kids to school and my wife to work and then go for a walk to pick leaves for the tortoises, have my breakfast and then do some work. I also get to make my own lunch and jump on the bike for a 20 minute pedal to somewhere nice or if it's raining watch TV or some such.

I do miss the social interaction sometimes and it does make you feel less part of a company, but the other lifestyle benefits are great!

Just had a look on Auto trader and there are loads of 4 year old, very low mileage Renault Zoe with the 44KWh battery for around £10k. Battery owned. Older smaller battery Zoe are from £7k.

Good/bad/indifferent ? It's the low miles thats a bit of a surprise, like less that 20k. These may be an option if my car dies one day, or a 370Z

A lot of those older Zoe's had quite short ranges and thus will only have been used as a local runabout. Nothing wrong with them of course, you just need more stops when trying to do a Zoe LeJog!

Could you really drive a zoe? Bit of a step down from a fiat 500.. mini E would be my floor!

I'd wait for a Dacia electric tbh.

But they didn’t find out they couldn’t use it did they? They couldn’t guarantee to be able to charge at the match, so “the best option” was to find a fast charge on the way back. The best option, not the only option. Ergo, they could have used it for a straightforward day out.

Yes, we could have used the EV without a charge, just. It turns out it was about 220 miles and apparently he’s been getting about 230 to 240 miles per charge recently. He’d found 8 bookable parking slots in the vicinity which offered charging but all were taken. We also could have broken the journey at a few places on the way back without much hassle, just making a long day a bit longer. The easier option was to take the ICE as trains were a non starter and use the temporary parking provided.

Most of the time the Zoe is great for his work trips, he has no hassle charging and you can’t really base decisions on occasional trips like this one. I just posted the example above to illustrate present real world boundaries and the sort of things that need to be planned for the future.

I blame Beeching.

So do I, iirc he wanted freight off the railways and on HGV's on the road, and managed to get rid of affordable transport on trains from/to anywhere in Britain, albeit with changes of train in some instances, with benefit of hind sight, he really stuffed public transport up big style

Headingley, as you have found out is dreadful for parking, I think what needs to happen is that 1, buses are put on from the various park & ride sites round the city, 2, they get some chargers installed there pronto, for a ground that hosts local to international cricket matches & the Leeds Rhinos RL games as well as international tests & RL World Cup games, it's frankly pathetic and Leeds could & should do better
