An eventful parkrun yesterday. It was Upton House parkrun's sixth anniversary, the nearest local parkrun in Poole was cancelled as " Race for Life " was going on in Poole Park, plus the event number was one in the Fibbonaci sequence ( There's a whole host of geekery for those who like the various challenges ). This confluence of events resulted in more than 600 runners instead of the usual 300. To celebrate the anniversary there was a Hawaian theme and loads of people brought cake🍰.
I started the run towards the back of the field, resplendent in Hawaiian shirt flamboyant socks and bright shorts, there was a bit of a logjam at the start as there's a sharp turn before a long downhill tree lined gravel track. As it started to thin out I put in a sprint and then managed to clip a tree root and faceplant - hard😮. There's always first aid at parkrun, and usually a doctor or nurse or two running. I was told later that as I lay there I was being tended by two Consultants, a GP, two nurses, a clinical specialist and a Police woman😎. They cleaned me up as they waited for the Ambulance to arrive, both knees badly grazed, elbows, hands, cheek, eyebrow, gravel rash, bruised ribs and v painful big toe which had smacked into the tree root, plus an " Impacted fracture of the upper Humerus " Poole A+E were great, Xrayed and arm out in a sling made bearable by a couple of Paracetamol, 5ml of Oromorph and a few blasts of N02. They sent me home with a bottle of Oromorph to be taken as and when. The sling is a bit convoluted, my arm has to have the hand up close to the good shoulder to allow the weight of the arm to pull at where the bone was jammed together, so I've improvised using
a couple of the many Buff type neck tubes that I've accumulated over the years, one around my neck, with a second one looped through like a chain, much more comfortable👍.
Here's yesterday's run 😉

Ouch! Get well soon.
Luckily I’ve only tripped over once in a run. It was on a slight downhill section in the Kielder Winter Warmer a few years ago. I knew I was falling and instinctively went into a tuck and rolled through it and back onto my feet, hardly breaking stride in the process. I doubt I would be so lucky next time something similar happens.
