umm

Is I being thick?

230 - 220 = 10
10 x 0.5 = 5

Is that too simplistic?

That's the wrong order; you always do the multiply before add or substract.
The rule is BODMAS - brackets, Of's (meaning powers of), Divide, multiply, add, subtract int that order.
The joke is the ! symbol meaning factorial - to catch out pedants like me who thought 5 was wrong, but 5! means 5x4x3x2 = 120 which is the right answer

It's not really a joke in the usual sense of this thread, but it's had me chuckling for a couple of days, since watching Carry On Up The Khyber. I don't remember the line exactly, but the gist of it was, in a scene of general chaos/retreat...

Officer: Fire at will!
Soldier: Why do they always fire at Will? 'e's alright, Will...

The founder of Dulux paints was found dead after wandering off from his care home in the middle of last winter.
At the inquest, the coroner said that he could have done with another coat.

"The greatest Carry On Film of them all" as it was described in the independent.; brilliant fun and my favourite of the series, many of which were pretty ropey.

My favourite scenes : in the Khyber pass where thr tribesmen have sabotaged the machine gun replacing the drum magazine with a gramophone record. The's the scene where someone's head has been substituted for the meal under the silver cover to frighten the British - "we didn't order that, send it back!" And of course the calm banquet during the battle .
But my favourite scene is near the beginning where the aide-du-campe is warning Sir Sydney Rough-Diamond (Sid James naturally), there there was a spot of bother that could lead to rebellion "You're exaggerating man", "It could undermine the whole British hold on India" "Don't be ridiculous, keep a sense of proportion". "It could jeopardise your position in a really cushy number" "This is serious, we must get onto it right away"

Sorry for digression but I love that film. It may be of its time and not wholly PC nowdays, but given the British characters are the biggest buffoons of the lot I think it's forgivable
