Some of us grew up with 2 channels

That surprises me. I didn't think set top boxes existed in the 2 channel days. Not doubting you, just rather surprised by it. Our first TV was 2 channel.

We did need a new TV set when BBC2 came along because it needed 625 lines IIRC.

Our original one had a dial that clicked round to get BBC or ITV
then we got a posh one with a bigger screen and TWO DIALS
One clicked round and found BBC and ITV - and also had a U
The U activated the lower dial that was smooth and, with care, could find BBC2

I was the only one who could get that to work - it was never quite in the same place!!

Where we lived in West Wales the reception was quite poor. My mum used to like to watch Wimbledon but the picture was so bad you couldn't really see the ball.

The other thing I remember is that my dad had insisted on asking official permission to put an aerial on the chimney of our council house. This was turned down so we had this big mast in the garden. Of course no one else bothered to ask so had perfectly sensible aerials on their chimneys like normal people

I kid you not,i once posted about the Black and White Minstrels.Billy Cotton Band Show i think.It was in relation to modern tv programmes.Well one lump a ,female, a sandwich short of a picnic had a go at me.I told her i used to sit with my mum and dad and enjoy the whole programme.Today i could not sit and watch prime time, Naked Attraction if that was entertainment.For some reason she never replied.
