That looks like a four bedroom house so will more than likely have two ( or more ) cars and yet they build it with just a single garage and driveway. I know of many new estates that when fully sold and occupied the roads become a car park.

That because previous central governments have had the barking idea that if only a minumum of parking spaces is sought it will deter car ownership:banghead:

The current lot might be making some ruling on the matter next year.

I suggest it’s more to do with property developers making houses more affordable by giving them less land. You can buy houses with enough space for many cars. The reason people buy the houses they do is because it’s what they can afford. And what they can afford is a house with the amount of land that they get. If they want more land they need to pay more money.

Somewhat related, but one thing I see a lot with modern developments is detached and semi detached houses with maybe a 3 foot gap to the neighbour. Surely it would make far more sense to join them together into a terrace giving bigger houses for the same land area, and also using fewer bricks thus making them cheaper. Insulation would better too.

Are people really willing to pay more for the snob value of detatched even at the expense of less house?

Accept it might appeal if it's in the middle of a big plot or whatever, but crazy just to have 3 foot gap. You could maybe stick an extra floor on for the same cost of terraced

Councils in their role as the Local Highway Authority set parking standards. North Yorkshire for example ask for 2 spaces for 2 or 3 bed and 3 spaces beyond that but there is no ruling in the current guidance in terms of them being individually accessible. Developers cramming houses in is why 2 and 3 beds invariably have parking to the front these days and no driveway to the side.

In our local Co-Op. I never released he was living round here, though he'd gone home when he finally got his phone to work?

If people didn't buy them, they might (just might) have to build with enough parking and a garden bigger than a postage stamp. Maybe not even in a flood plain.

People moan about them, but still buy them.
