Aldi...........pahhhh

The reason we spend less in Aldi is because there are less impulse purchases (apart from cycle event promotions... then I warn Mrs V that there may be cycling related items in the trolley) therefore we only buy the essentials and not luxuries.... For aspirational (i.e special meal/dinner party etc) shopping we go to a M&S or big Sainbury's, When we do shop in Morrisons, Tescos or sainsbury's for a normal weeks shop we usually spend about a third more, we get a third more shopping but said 'shop' still only lasts the same amount of time.....

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
If I'm being honest, i have to admit I have never shopped in aldi or lidl. I've never even been inside one of they're stores.

Bought some Aldi peas a few weeks ago, cos I happened to be near an Aldi when I'd run out of peas.

Tasted like little green bullets.

Back to Birds Eye or Sainsbury's own brand - no matter if they cost more!

Never set foot inside an Aldi, or Lidl. I'd rather walk through the gates of hell than the doors of those places.

The wife does the shopping on line from Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys* If we need anything else I pop into the local waitrose. Very civilised. Free coffee while you shop, and a good selection of whisky

*It used to be Tesco but their prices were going through the roof and they never had our order complete or delivered on time. Sainsbury's can't pack bags correctly so we stopped using them. Asda are by far the best for online shopping. Best prices, normally delivered in the time slot and if not you get your delivery charge back.

I prefer Lidl over Aldi as the range is generally better, however the wine is better in Aldi.

Worth noting that Lidl have a reputation for overworking their staff. Not sure if Aldi is quite similar in that regard.

Also there seem to be a lot more Lidl stores around than Aldi ones, at least down south anyway.

I do main shop at ASDA but that's because I get 10% discount , I make my shopping list on mysupermarket.com and see if the rivals can do it cheaper and even without discount they can't . Bits and bobs like bog roll come from where ever is the cheapest without wiping my arse on sandpaper so Wilkinson's ,poundland whatever . Lidl /aldi have a few bargains but can't compete with ASDA hands down .
Fresh stuff like bread and veg I get as needed , but I rarely shop in tescos just don't like em never did .

Can't beat M&S for food quality, closely followed by morrisons.
I swear where we live everyone goes to tesco for a get together. Always people blocking the isles with their trollys having a natter.
I generally pop to aldis only for the offers....,.cycling or tools, their tools are usually pretty good value

I really cant wait for our new store to be finished, OK its a bit more expensive to shop there, but absolutely no food gets wasted, not like now, we must chuck a tenner away each week in wasted food, so really will be cheaper in the long run

Dunno about over working, but Aldi pay very well I hear.

We often pop down to NT'as local one to browse the specials. However, we tend to do main shopping in Morrisons, the more local one (although there's not much in it distance wise.). I've never noticed any difference in the clientele or atmosphere, beyond Aldi being a smaller building.

However, I don't know that we'd save much on groceries at Aldi, as I'm a buyer of own brands. The comparative price adverts are always matched against brand names. A tin of Aldi tomatoes is cheaper than Napolitana, but more expensive than Morrisons or Sainsburys basic own brand.
