Alan Partridge back on the TV!.

A few laugh out loud moments. I look forward to seeing the chemistry develop between Alan and Jenny, her loathing just below the surface while maintaining a facade of on-air geniality. I thought more than once "stop leaning on her you creep". At the very least, her inevitable on-screen break will provide catharsis to Susanna Reid.

One problem I see it having is that it needs to be funny in a much subtler way than I'm Alan Partridge because the format is completely different, and it won't punch down as hard which will be seen as being "PC gone mad innit" by those who don't realise that they themselves have turned into parodies.

I thought it was bang on, as usual, hes completely oblivious to his innane and annoying traits, living in his own weird space. I'll be watching.

He's still got his trademark "awkwardness" and there were some good bits, especially the "antibiotic" explanation and his mate with the touch screen.

Think it's got some mileage on it and they'll be at each others throats by episode 6..

As said above he can't go full on Partridge mode because it's no his show.

You genuinely forget it's Steve Coogan and that in itself is an achievement..

Thing is, I don't think Coogan plays him like that - Partridge knows that he has them, but is unable to stop himself until it has all gone too far and it dawns on him just where he's got himself.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Sorry but I never knew what people saw in him. Never liked it and didn't find it funny at all. Needless to say I won't be watching the new series either. I saw a preview and was totally underwhelmed by it. ^_^

I hope that those that do like him enjoy the series though.

Not funny at all. We also watched 20 minutes of the new Martin Clunes comedy, which we also didn't find funny. Whoever wrote it lacks any subtlety and has a very simplistic view of life.

Yes, that was an odd one indeed. Sort of a contemporary Meldrew, but without any charm whatsoever to redeem the character. The sooner he's found face down in his pond the better.

I can't understand why the writers thought it would be funny to convey a rude, insensitive middle-aged man. In Doc Martin, Clunes does a fine job of conveying the inner tension caused by being an uptight man stressed by the friendly informality of the people around him but here the script just sinks to the lowest common denominator, like a live version of the horrible comments people post on social media.

Partidge has always been a rude, insensitive middle-aged man. He hasn't changed; everyone else has.

Barnet,
Most times you can tell when a particular show may be a bit if a turkey by the amount of times the "stars" turn up on TV and radio shows promoting said shows. For the last few weeks, both Martin Clunes, who I think is quite a good actor, and Steve Coogan have been doing the rounds, plus endless trailers on primetime telly. Warren did make me smile a bit though, as my Father in law was just like him, even down to the jacket he was wearing.
