I've often come across this idea in the UK that all other countries are "just the same" in these cases.
There are artefacets from other countries in several museums in Europe, but I'm not sure of any examples of such great significance to the originating country being taken and retained by other countries.
Well the british empire was more successful than most in recent times but i don't think the basic point is much different. French# took loads of stuff from Egypt. Turin has a big collection. Though when i went kept pretty poorly. Germans took a lot. Some returned of course due to campaign downturns but much lost.
Plus the pergamon?
In truth i don't think the brits worse. Though glad the Benin bronzes are going back from the Horniman. Benin a disgraceful episode.
And don't get me started on the Romans Andy.
