What did you think they were?

I always tune the top string to the bottom one because it is easy to hear when the interval is exactly 2 octaves. (And it is equally obvious when it isn't if you play a chord with both strings in it!)

I had lessons many years ago.
I think they lasted, literally, 8 weeks before I admitted I was a lost cause.
And..... I haven't got a clue what an E string does.

I looked it up and it turned out that the originator was you.

Ah I was using ADam was riding for GrenADiers but this didn't work for long.

What's the GK?

Guest Keen and Nettlefolds. They had a factory in Brum that I used to pass on my way to school. My journey also passed the Birmngham Small Arms factory

Agreed. Particularly they should never have even considered using them on disc brake callipers to hold the pad in place

How the hell Shimano ever thought that a good idea I don't know.

As you can probably guess from the above, I currently have a munged up one I can't get off - when I do manage it, I will probably just replace it with a split pin.
