I have just learned that there is a musical instrument called a 'sackbut'!

His majesty's sagbuts and cornets are well worth seeing. We nearly always go if they do a gig locally. "cornet" isn't in this case the brass band equivalent of the trumpet but a wooden oboe sized instrument with a cup mouthpiece like a trumpet, and fingerholes rather than valves; a "brass" instrument but made of wood so to speak

Are you sure?

They will have been breaking the law if they were open.

Sops over 280 Sq metres retail space are not allowed to open on Easter Sunday or Christmas day (with certain exceptions which do not include such supermarkets).

Any other Sunday, they can open for up to 6 consecutive hours.

Are you sure you didn't mean Tesco Express?

Yes

I think this should explain about Sunday opening hours.

We are in Ledbury for the weekend and found that both Tesco and the Coop are closed on Easter Sunday so we had to go to the pub for tea.

I went to the pub for my tea in Ledbury yesterday too.

A football pitch is about 5000 Sq M, so 280 is around 1/20 of a football pitch.

Literally no idea what that looks like.

I'm guessing it's somewhere between 'my local corner shop' and 'the massive out of town furniture warehouse' which is frankly a level of precision I'm perfectly happy with.

You and your common sense. 🤣

Although I did think exactly the same this morning when someone posted on a local Facebook group asking what time Tesco was open.
A friend phones me on a smartphone to ask me what the local weather forecast is. And no - it is not a question of running out of data - she is usually at home connected to her wifi at the time!
