She didn't trap with those Cartier watches today. She's just phoned me to say something cropped up, so she's bringing them in next week. My goldsmith/watch seller/repairer friend told me today that I should buy a Patek Philippe watch as in his opinion they are better than Rolex's. He also also gave me these magazines to look through.

PP are in a difference league to Rolex both in terms of finish and price. You are going to need a much bigger budget than that which you have already been looking at.

Got a few J. Arthur Rank mags there I see Accy.

Yes Drago, no doubt some would find looking at very expensive watches quite erotic!

No price I notice. You know what they say. If you have to ask the price then........

Accy, before buying a watch I always ask myself, "would Lewis Collins wear this?" If the answer is "no" then it stays in the shop.

Yes, I doubt he'd be seen wearing a poncy/girly Cartier dress watch! 🤔

Pockets so deep that you can't actually reach the bottom...

That said, I really do like that purple dial. The rest of the watch, not so much...

I picked up a “well used” PP in mid 2020 from a Belgian dealer for a very good price (well under £10k) and sent it off to PP for a service. Nearly £2k and several months later it came back like new. I wore it at my daughters wedding, and once afterwords, but it never saw much wrist time. I’ve since moved it on for a good chunk more cash than I had in it.

There are bargains out there if you’re willing to take a chance, and know what you are looking at.

Maybe I just happen to have much shorter arms than most...

My spendiest watch (a mid-60s C-cased Girard Perregaux Gyromatic) set me back £50.
