And maybe a few helmets as well.

Better in what way?

In that there would be fewer cyclists? In that your chance of getting a head injury per unit distance would increase? Both the outcomes of mandatory helmets in Australia when the law was brought in, and they still haven't recovered.

Cycling has a 20:1 benefit:disbenefit ratio with respect to health (meaning even if helmets were 100% effective at preventing all fatal injuries (including non-head fatal injuries), if you reduced cycling in the UK by 5% you are actually harming the nation's' health) It has been shown that compulsion (and strong advocation) lowers cycle usage. Conversely those countries with the lowest rates of head injury also have the highest levels of cycling, and low to nonexistent levels of helmet use. Lets try emulating success rather than clasping lucky rabbit's feet eh?

The sooner the law changes to compulsory helmets the better. The roads are a very different place now than they were 100 years ago.
Most of us welcome radical views occasionally but expect them to be backed up with some reasoning, so advance some arguments or just admit to trolling.

Thanks for reminding me of this facility - I'm now experimenting with 'ignoring' the person you're referring to. I feel somewhat empowered again.
I tried it once or twice, it just makes reading threads a bit disjointed and you end up pressing the "reveal ignored content" button anyway!
My list is empty at the moment. I find it easier to just skip past posts that you know are a waste of space.
