As so many people bothered to reply to my OP I thought I'd just share my current thoughts. Whilst I have always been a supporter of any LBS that gives me good service I am toying with the idea of Canyon. I am not sure I like the idea of not being fitted or not riding before I buy or indeed buying direct, but the amount of bike you get for your money seems utterly astonishing. Two pro-tour teams cannot be wrong for starters. Ultimate CF SLX 8.0 with Di2 and Ksyrium SLR WTS Exalith 2 wheels at under £3200 looks a deal as is the Ultimate CF SL 9.0 DI2 at £2599, there is even a Movistar team repilca CF SL 9.0 with mechanical Chorus and Eurus wheels for £100 less. Boardman SLS 9.4 comes in at £3200 with Di2 also. This plan is looking like a goer at last probably around April time if all goes well. Any personal experience of the Canyons or buying direct and the Boardman would be appreciated. Merry Christmas to all!

Have you seen the di2 Scott Addict Team HMX packages that Westbrook Cycles are doing? This frame was ridden by both Orica Greenedge and IAM Cycling in 2014. They are my LBS but have mail order side too. Good set of lads and as big seller of Scotts.

My mate has been watching these frameset/groupset combos on and off for a while.

Scott bikes seem to always on sale this year and with jig savings. What's wrong with them?

Hmmm, thanks for that. Goes to prove there are deals to be had all over the place on all different sorts of bikes. It is frustrating having to wait until April, but hopefully there will be similar bargains out there when I am ready to move on this.

You gotta love deals . I'm looking for another bike right now and the deals swing it but you're not getting a pro bike for 3k . You get a nice one if you swap out the stock wheels but ........
If you want to get a really really nice bike start looking at wheels and then pick a frame to put them on .
I wish I had been told this at the start , I probably was but ignored it ^_^

No, don't wait. Santander 0% credit card for 23 months is what you need.......... It's what I have done while the cash is sat earning 3% interest from......yes, Santander.

I was in Westbrooks on Saturday specing my new Addict. They said the discounts are on the bikes that are in team colours as these, and the sponsors change each year.

Cant' wait until my credit card arrives so I can go and pick up my new bike.

I was in the same position as the OP a couple of months ago, when I had a few grand dumped in my lap from a pension that I didn't even realise I was going to get . I eventually settled on a 2015 bike with Di2 (rrp £2699).
LBS did a really good deal - bike, shoes, Ultegra pedals, Garmin 510, 10% off all future purchases and a free bike fit - for under £3000.
I'm one happy bunny!

It does indeed look nice. On the subject of 3 Grand its just a roundabout figure. Having said that that I am not prepared to blow too much more of my lump sum on a bike however attractive the proposition is. It will still be piloted by a 57+ year old who in his wildest dreams would never be able to do the £3000 machine justice let alone a more expensive one. It is a slightly frivolous purchase, but only slightly. I'll live without electronic shifting for the time being,

Interestingly UBYK has this for a smidge under £4000, but my next door neighbour has one, minus electronic shifting. Says it's very light but if he's honest the ride is harsh, also it doesn't pick up speed anything like as quickly as my Ridley, so a more expensive bike might not necessarily be right for me. I want light with a good ride. I'm not going to pander to the industry's categorising of bikes as race/sportive etc. if it's the right one, it'll do. Do have a hankering for this though. With manual shifting I might add.

I think that Argon 18 looks stunning & I read a full ride review of that bike with a glowing report.

Interesting to hear the views of an owner though.

I would have one in a heartbeat if I had that kind of spending power/salary.
The Argon 18 appeals to me on so many levels, not least that it is not a common or garden machine & from a none mainstream brand.

Nothing, they are in fact outstanding, Swiss designed & owned, properly professional products.

Apart from the Argon 18 mentioned above, the 2015 Scott Addict 15 (Ultegra Di2) model is my most wanted bike & I am hopeful that the price will come down from £2699 later next year & be available in a 56cm or 58cm size.

Should it get to approx £2200 I will move Heaven & Earth to buy it.
