I am thinking about upgrading my jalopy of a hybrid to something a little nicer. Since recently moving job the office commutes are by train so the bike does not need to be stored in a ropey bike storage unit. I am looking for a hybrid on the second hand market and the criteria is

Straight bar
Under 12kg
No suspension
Maximum budget £350 but preferably closer to £250

I am limited to what crops up within 30 miles so I need to make the list as broad as possible and sporadically running the list through that auction site in the hope of something local to crop up. Suggestions welcome either from experience of the bike or knowing anything that meets the above. I hope to add some lesser brands to the list with the intention of getting better brake and gear components.

I currently have written down
Trek FX2 or FX3
Pinnacle Lithium or Neon
Giant Escape
Specialized Sirrus

Look at boardman bikes - nice light frames.
Also Cannondale too.

Whyte R7 range, eg Cambridge, Portobello, Shoreditch, Stirling probably out of price range (where's 30 miles of your location, these are fairly common around London) (there are some WSD models too if you're female/small)

If the frame is still good, why not invest your cash in upgrading your present bike - ?
I've done that and it's very rewarding as it's the result of your own labours. :okay:

It's a heavy hector with suspension that I do not require.

Good luck! Let us know what you get!

Thanks. I will report back with the result. There are some good suggestions above though I have been informed that there is no space for me to have three bikes in the garage at once so the hybrid needs to be sold first .

Tomorrow looks dry with sunny spells so I will make a start in giving the old jalopy a thorough clean and getting it listed for sale.

I am going to put my bike(Boardman Adv 8.6) up for sale to make room for new bike I recently purchased and still awaiting delivery. It’s been only used few times as soon after I ended up buying Pinnacle Arkose. However bike is in Edinburgh and it’s a gravel not hybrid Absolute minimum I would accept is £450. Cheers

Sorry should have mentioned that it’s a gravel & not hybrid.

Phase 1 is complete and after many timewasters and silly offers the jalopy this week went to it's new home. Messaged, test ridden and taken away all in the same day after a bit of Chuckle Brothers back and forth getting it into his car. Phase 2 is now underway but there is nothing tempting nearby at the moment.
