Spot on, and probably the biggest reason why Mrs Slick wanted to move again despite having a cracking house. Location, location, location. :okay:

The local golf club knocked down it's club house a 1960s chalet bungalow and put 5 detached houses with literally no gardens!!!

Probably a very common deal right now. The truth is, its getting more difficult for organisations like golf clubs to hang on to their land, as more and more developers are willing to throw huge sums at relatively smallish parcels of land. You only sell the family silver once though.

Most the steels have now arrived, but still needs installing. At least we now have some walls, and window/door openings are starting to form.

Slow but steady progress, bricklayers have pretty much done all they can now, waiting for rest of the steels to be installed next week so the roof can be started. Front entrance is starting to take shape, cannot wait for the remaining retaining wall to come down and the whole space at the front is opened up .

I saw a article recently where a chap made a feature of a well - excavated it to expose the brick/stone, cleaned up, and now has a glass panel over it in his kitchen floor !

It's popular in old pubs to do this, Hogs Head (Sowerby Bridge) is a great pub that has one.

And Gzoom's house is looking good too🧱

not to be snarky & excuse me if I missed it, just curious, if it needed nothing, why are you doing so much? fwiw - I think it looks great, what you're doing

As title says.....Grand Designs. Never thought I would ever have the means or even opportunity to live out what is genuinely a childhood dream. So what not .

More steels have gone in now, and you can start to see the shape of the atrium over the kitchen and the spine of the stairway that's going to connect the two upstairs gables.

This will be double height atrium in the kitchen that joins with the atrium/gable at the front of the house. Getting quite exciting to see the 3D space take shape.

Kitchen design is also now done, deposit paid. The rendering doesn't show the double height atrium, so I've added my own 'preview' of what the glazing will look like above the island.

Next few weeks hopefully will see the new part of the house 'join' with the existing block.

Very nice - great see the progress.

Have you spec’d the windows already? If the budget will allow, go for triple glazing and stating the obvious, also stuff the house full of insulation. It will pay in the long run.

^Key bit is budget for triple glazing. We are likely to go for aluminium frame all round, and two of the roof windows need to self powered opening/closing+blinds due to their location…….Everything has a £££ and it adds up very quickly!

Yes, the costs all add up (quickly). Especially the incidentals - the little things that can easily be overlooked. We spent over five figure extra on our foundations due to what was found when they excavated at the start of the dig for our extension. That was most of our contingency gone in a flash.

We have electric velux in ours. So glad we went for the extra over manual.

We now have the start of a roof, Velux windows are now on order and openings formed

Plenty more work to be done at the front still, and 2 more bits of steels to install next week. Builders is optimistic we’ll be water tight before winter hits, which would be very welcome.

All the steels are finally in, as we'll some glazing, and the mezzanine/atrium floor is now formed.

Builders recon progess will be quicker now, aiming for all roofing to be done and all glazing in before Xmas.

Quite excited now .
