In my nerdier moments watching a youtube zwift race (i know) I've noticed this - they tend to join the big races 20 or 30 minutes early for this exact reason
....after having ridden around in zwift long enough beforehand to ensure they have the aero power-up already bagged ready for the sprint finish too :okay:

That has stopped now. Powerups disappear when you go into the pens.

Still hurting this morning!!! :B) Looking at the start to that race yesterday, I averaged 313 watts over the first 2 mins, and 342 over first 100 seconds. I normally don't push anywhere near that at the start of races, preferring to go out relatively hard to stay in lead C group, but not risk blowing up.

I will definitely be picking more B cat races (flat of course!) to help me hone the starts and to help my body learn to recover better after such brutal starts and still stay with the pack

For those interested, and I know many are , I was 78.7kg this morning - a few more 78.x kg weigh ins this week and I'll be lowering my weight in Zwift :wahhey:

Having watched the E races i understand you round UP to the nearest 1/2 kilo not down. :okay:

It's about who you start with in the pens. As and Bs start together, Cs and Ds start together. Due to 'sticky draft' when you start with Cs, however hard you push you will only go as fast as other Cs (unless you can break out the sticky and latch on to the As and Bs). But when you start in an A/B pen, pushing 400 watts means I can stay with the the lead group.

As an overall race, had I started with Cs yesterday I'd probably have finished in the same position as I'd have been in the lead C group and hence would have caught the stragglers from B (i.e the guys I ended up riding with). But, I'd have done this for less effort (a lot more Cs to wheel suck and not having to go into the red early on to stick with the lead As and Bs).

So, within that race, no advantage of starting with Bs on my end result, but from a work out perspective much harder as I had to burn a lot more matches early on and then work very hard later to stick with the lead Cs.

Probably worth saying, I've never even seen the lead A/B group before when I've started in the C/D pen.

If it was a mass start, all in one pen, then zero benefits of selecting a higher cat

Carl, I not convinced the sticky draft has any effect on the mass starts. I have never read anyone complain about it affecting the start. In the race i did we C's quickly caught the slower B's out of their pen.

If I was in official e-races then I'd do the same  I use the Excel ROUNDDOWN function  It helps my weight loss motivation and as long as I'm still losing weight then I don't have any guilt :okay:

:laugh:I would have though you might want to be accurate about your weight to help with motivation

Oh is that right? That must be a pretty recent update then, as I was watching a video the other day of Jon Mould racing in the KISS Super League and he was riding around on zwift beforehand searching for an aero powerup for the race, which was what made me think of it. I think it's a good idea to clear them when you go to the race start so it's more of a level playing field so well done Zwift!

I just recon it averages itself out. I'm mostly in the 78s now but still ride at 79 (so, rounding up). When I do drop to 78 I'll be in the 78 range all the time, most likely going over and under 78.5 during the week as that is just how our bodies fluctuate during the day. I'll only drop my weight once I'm confident I am below 79 and not just dropping down there the odd day.

kudos on the weight loss and power gains.

I lost my aero draft in the pen yesterday in a 3R race, but wasn't sure if that was specific to their events or for all races. Maybe it's an option for race organisers to turn on or off?

I think it came in at the same update as the drop shop. Could be wrong, haven't actually raced in a while.

Speaking of which got my eye on 3R watopia hilly at 1710 if I can manage it, won't be doing the tour of watopia until thursday

I'm planning on the ToW at 6. Legs are still tired from last night but i recon I can give it a good go. Looks like @Del C and @bert1971 are also signed up tonight. Unfortunately so are 2500 others so i don't expect I'll see them on the road
