Can anybody stop legs movement after that kind of spin . Probably next ascent goes like fly. Actually that what Lee does and i guess Tommy as well.

I don’t think it would be much fun! The trouble is it’s the pedals pushing you rather than you pushing the pedals. It can be quite violent. I’ve seen guys just un clip going down hill and tuck their feet in the space above the down tube.

No its single side with being disc brake. Im going to try and ride it every day and do far less car journeys for small tasks. Hopefully I will become more a regular road rider. I could easily think of daily items to collect from town instead of saving up tasks

Cycling for cyclings sake

Did the FTP step ride today. Up until today my race FTP is about 252, my 20 mins FTP was also 252. On the step test today I managed 265 (I got to 10 seconds into the 345 segment, completed 100% of the 320 watt segment). It was certainly a hard test. Will probably do this each month or so to keep testing progress.

The actual 2.5 minute step segments for me were ....

Watts
147
171
196
220
245
270
295
320
345

As I say, I completed segment 320 watts, and snuck 10 seconds into 345.

265W = Great result :bravo:

I have no experiece of fixed gear bikes but i can understan how dangerous it can be. When moving force is big in a descent, i dont know can you give much braking force to slow you down.

I did the GPLama ramp test today.

My segments were slightly different to yours, but I completed the 300W segment and got 1 minute into the 325W segment (all segments were 2m 30s).

Based on the maths, my FTP would be 256W according to the ramp test, compared to the 251W I achieved in Saturday's 20 minute FTP test. My old FTP before the Build Me Up programme was 244W.

So, the ramp test seems to be telling me I've got potential for another 5W FTP improvement at current fitness levels.

In the UK it’s illegal to ride a bike without two working brakes. In terms of fixed gear that means you need to have at least one brake calliper as a minimum.

But I can’t imagine choosing a fixed gear bike to ride down big descents. Or climb them either. It’s must be a real grind! Really the more consistent (flat) the terrain is the better.

Here in Finland the traffic rules and regulation are pretty much same as UK. Bike need to be safe to stop and dark times visibility must be good (lights, reflectors etc.).
