Looks as though that's three of us starting over again this week has been a cycling disaster
That's interesting ..... as I go deeper into the sessions I also can't always stick to the cadence so (say) when it wants 60 I have to stand and maybe can only hit 50-55, or when it wants 110 I may only be hitting 95. But, I can still always hit the required power and Kickr doesn't over resist. This could be a 'feature' of the Pro units. Be interesting if taking the cadence sensor out the equation if that helps.I'm starting over today. I couldn't finish the red unicorn because I couldn't spin fast enough and the resistance kept cranking up in a vicious cycle... No pun intended- I've removed the battery from the cadence sensor I was using and will use the cadence from the Pro and will try again.
Thanks Kip. That explains it. I kept changing gears to up the cadence. It is well named because I was spiraling down. The erg mode spiral of death, have a Google. Pick a gear and stay in it, something that will enable the cadance to be stable. You don't change gear with doing workouts.
I haven't suffered the spiral of death on my kickr snap but others have. It sounds like the pro can suffer from this. I would perhaps lower the intensity of the workout to 95% so you can maintain the cadance.

I saw you had a real world ride today.. Lots of PRs and mention of a second cafe. Nice.
I had it on the pro a few times, but not had it on the Kickr. If I feel the cadence is getting too low I pause the workout for a minute, spin back up then continue the session. The erg mode spiral of death, have a Google. I've had the ERG Mode SoD on all the trainers I have used. A 4-7 second pause to adjust position or grab a drink or an increase in resistance just above what you could handle at that moment or any one of a hundred reasons for a short pause/dip in cadence can send you into this. I just go from big ring to small and rebuild from there. The erg mode spiral of death, have a Google. Pick a gear and stay in it, something that will enable the cadance to be stable. Make that 4!Looks as though that's three of us starting over again this week has been a cycling disaster
That's what all of the trainers/software platforms I've had tried to do. But there sometimes comes a point where you can't maintain the cadence and the ramp in resistance out runs the lowering of cadence and you grind to a halt. As I said it's the lapses that do for you. I maintained a 100 cadence on one of the first workouts in the FTP builder plan last week as required, but had I dropped too low the power would have dropped and there would have been a bump in resistance that I would not have been able to control.Best ERG mode training platform is TrainerRoad,.
You can vary cadence to any rpm and it will just increase/lower resistance as required
All zwift sessions start in warm up and low watts, so being in high gear shouldn't make any difference. I do sessions in large front and mid back (50/16 ish) but only get the over resistance if I let cadence drop too low (below 40). Can't recall at what stage I got this on the pro though as I was new to the workouts and may have been doing something wrong .
I have had it on the NEO on Sufferfest when I started in too high a gear. They recommend either dropping intensity at start or starting in an easier gear. After all, you are in erg so trainers is controlling resistance, you Cadence.
Should never need to change gear in a workout. Maybe drop your ftp in zwift and try again and see how that works. Could be your ftp is too high? Thanks Kip. That explains it. I kept changing gears to up the cadence. It is well named because I was spiraling down.
