It’s definitely getting grizzly out there! I tried to go out this morning but I gave up after a few miles. Seriously lacking enthusiasm at the moment . Might try again tomorrow.

Carl I must admit I have been thinking more about doing Cambridge on the fixed gear. I’m enjoying riding it so much at the moment. I don’t even put strava on most the time which is very liberating
Bugger ... I was hoping to hold the record of the fastest CCer to have ridden the ToC on a SS bike .... I suppose I can always be the 2nd fastest  I genuinely think it will be great fun to do the ToC on a SS.

I know it's not for everyone, but I love riding SS. Hills are obviously a challenge () but flattish ridding is lovely. Just spin along without having to keep chasing the gears, just let the legs change cadence to suit the terrain. Love it :hyper:

Don’t listen to him Carl. He doesn’t like doing hills on the granny gears, let alone a fixie!

I totally agree about the spinning. Got to be careful not to wax too lyrical but there’s something very different about it. I tired to do London to Brighton a few weeks ago but ran out of time and had to jump on a train 15 miles out. I didn’t get off and push up any hills, in fact I got a couple of pb’s. But going down them was tough.

I had a fixie / single speed for a couple of years, went pair shaped after my mtb accident and my hip damage. It was always nice to go out solo but hard work riding with a group, I always wanted to find a group of fixie riders...

There’s a few guys doing laps of Regent’s Park on fixies but I don’t think I’m ready for it yet. I find it ok if I can slow down steadily but if I have to slam the brake it’s a bit hairy. Even just cycling on the road I find myself hanging further behind cars than I do on my road bike.

For those wanting to upgrade some or all of your bike bearings, then this video will give you a good insight as to why you could very well be wasting your money especially on ceramic/ hybrid cartridge bearings.

It’s something I’ve read up a fair bit on in the past Andy. Not least because I’m a complete tart who likes justifying things to myself. I remember when the cyramic speed bearings started cropping up in wheels and people would blabber on about how long they would spin for. But as hambini mentions it has nothing to do with how they spin under load. I do actually have cycamic bearings. I have them in two sets of wheels and two of my bb’s. One of the bb’s is on my s-works tarmac. I’ve just checked on strava and I’ve done over 5k miles on that bike on the original bb. I service the bike myself which helps things last longer. But they’re still going very well for what it’s worth. All the cyramic speed stuff I have it has been a case of the part I wanted came with cs, rather than me buying it for the cs. The colnago bb adaptor for example allowed me to avoid using press fit cups into the bb. There are watt saving gains from cs bearings. I think though from memeory the main saving isn’t in the wheels or bb, but in the rear derailleur pulley wheels. And I think it’s a saving of about 3w over an hour period... so complete none sense really for us mortals.
Even branded steel bearings are a complete rip off. Zipp wanted £40 for replacement bearing for my rear 303 wheel. I got the same ones for £5 delivered!

The problem with Zwift and ios has been replicated by the Zwift development team and an update is imminent

https://forums.zwift.com/t/ble-resistance-issues-mainly-on-ios-devices/13639

I was frustrated by this and could replicate it on every ride if I wanted to. I explained this to Zwift months ago and told them that in fact it was caused by my Bluetooth heart rate strap, that despite not going out of range was regularly disconnecting and reconnecting which killed the Neo resistance. It is strange it took so long for them to put two and two together. In the meantime I just rode without the heart rate and all was well, I was waiting for a a good deal on a Wahoo Tickr, perhaps I will hold off a few weeks later and see if the update fixes the issue.
