Someone will be along before too long to put you right ! Aft:wacko:er a few cans I can be of no use tonight  - but can’t be that hard as I have done it ^_^
I’m still on the free trial period. That might be the problem with getting an ID.

Edit. I’m in

But I suppose the question we ask is: How much power ‘should’ it take to recover in that position? I guess that is a mathematical question ultimately. And it’s very hard to come to a definitive conclusion without the data in front of us. I don’t actually have a position on it. Other than to question why others feel the way they do about it, and can they back it up with data. I do question a little whether people realise how tough it is to recover from being dropped in the real world. There are so many variables after all my old physics teacher would be rubbing his hands together at the permutations. But where Zwift draws the line on this is still a mystery to me, after a day of long debate! ^_^

But now I can happily say, with a glass of wine next to me, it isn’t a question that is going to haunt my dreams tonight!
Sorry couldn't finish my post, had to go and have dinner with the family.
I have done tons of IRL group rides and races, and I don't think Zwift is all wrong there.
If you get dropped in a race there's certainly no way you will get back without the team cars giving you a draft.

Lee you comfortably average 18mph on your own. I struggle to do that. I AVE 21.3mph on TOC. You will climb much better than most so will get over the lumpy bits with the faster riders. Just draft more and you will get a great average. Next TOC is 100 miles and more climb elevation. It will suit you more. I'm happy to have a fast ride but also will ride with most of the Cc guys to make it a social event.
so - if i can get up to doing solo rides of about 80 @19mph (if possible for me !) that should stand me ok for the day ?

Yes, my fastest club ride upto TOC was 19.2mph over 70 miles. TOC, I averaged 21.3, I stopped for mid distance break, rode alone for 4-5 miles and still did that average. From memory, the first 10 miles was over 25mph. by 40 miles before my break, I recorded >23mph average. Its a fast course(or was) and a huge draft fest, if you want it to be. You will get over the lumpy bits easily, stay in your pack, but dont worry if theyre too fast, another pack will come along behind which might be just a tad slower.

Tommy,Paul left me Bob, Martin after 10 miles. Bob, Martin went over the early bumps faster than me, but I caught them on the descent into the fens. Bob again got away on the hills. After 25 miles, the event settled into varying groups, I was with Martin and I could see Bob 150 yards ahead in another group. Tommy, Paul were long gone, actually only a mile or two ahead at the end. I'll dig out the Strava Flyby to show you how we rode, relative to each other on the course.
Fly by map it includes Myself,Bob,Martin and Paul( couldnt find Tommy on list)

Edit, actually Bob was several minutes ahead of Martin and me. The jump around 40 miles is my break of 6 mins or so.

When I'm at the 70 mile marker Bob,Martin are at 73miles, Paul just passed 76miles

That will be interesting. I remember I stopped at least 3 times, dropped chain and twice because of cramp. The rolling average shows just how important that draft was. I am looking forward to next years event.

You will be fine. I had a slightly faster average rolling speed than Andy and like him spent a fair bit of time out of the pack. You are over thinking it but I suppose thats the trap a sage can fall into...
its a cross i have to bare ! - so there are stops on the way then ? on a normal 100 i would stop once maybe twice if hilly but that is just pootling
todays sage advice - if you put your hand in something soft and squidgy - there is absolutely no reason to smell your hand

I didn’t choose to stop even though there were a few food stops. I just wanted to keep riding.

Yes there are stops, the food is decent, cake, savouries, Isotonic or water. Martin has experience of non stop 100 milers, Id prefer to stop once again.

Talking about toc tactics. Last year the group I was in got split in two. I didn’t realise at first as I was a couple of riders back. Then I look up to see Bridgy disappearing into the distance. No one seemed overly bothered apart from me so I had to bridge the gap on my own. Trying to get back I was putting out 6/700 watts for at least 20 or 30 seconds. I got to the point where they were a few meters away and I wasn’t sure if I could make it. Or if I did make it what would I have left for the rest of the ride as this was only about 20 miles in! I just made it back on the back I think. Like maybe a couple of seconds more and I was going to go pop.

It took me about another 10 miles to recover from that effort. The group is like elastic. You need to judge who is weak and strong. Don’t get stuck behind someone struggling going into a corner. Because when the corner comes everyone is putting out 400 watts+ to re group. So I think my advice would be

-work on group riding / sitting on wheels, and reading body language etc
-work on endurance riding. You can’t stop for breaks.
-work on 10 second power for those blasts at the corners.
