You're going to the Island of Gran Canaria?

Arrgh, we are staying at Maspalomas, but are leaving the 22nd. Our flight home is 14:15 local time, what time are you arriving?

Late afternoon I believe. Not to worry, we could have had a ride together if we had crossed over by a few days.

Weather is looking good, I hope it stays that way

I don't know what kind of cold that was, but it had me blowing bloody snot for 2 weeks. For almost a month I couldn't mount the energy needed to ride the bike .
Me neither, climbing back on the bike tonight, last ride was the 10th Sept! .. Still a bit snotty, and wheezy from a respiratory tract infection

Just checked my times on ZwiftPower and see that @berty bassett was in the same race as me .... didn't see him, he was way up the road :surrender:

What I don't get though about that ride is that being flat I was expecting straight power/watts to correlate pretty closely to each rider's speed, but nothing of the sort. Speed/time seems to be more linked to w/kg. I thought this was only the case on hilly courses?

When I'm comparing riders in a race on the flat sections, I tend to have 0.5-.0.7 less W/Kg for the same speed. When the road goes uphill I need about 1W/kg more to stay with the lighter riders.

I had 60 watts more than the (female) rider who finished 20 seconds behind me but with same w/kg. On a flat course with the watt difference I'd expect to be way ahead, but on a climb be as close as we were. Another guy was even further back but pushed 280 watts but had 2.5 w/kg. It was a TT race so maybe that was part of the reason?

Lee was 3 minutes ahead but only 9 absolute watts higher ... but my 2.8 w/kg against his 3.6 w/kg was clearly a factor in speed even though it was a mostly flat course .

I did my 3rd training ride on Zwift this evening - Whilst it's not easy, it's not as difficult as I imagined it would be. Is this because the 6-week beginner FTP builder starts off easy and gets harder, or did I cock up the FTP test and I'm not training at the level I should be to get results? For reference the average speed I'm clocking on Strava after a workout is 3 or 4mph lower than it would normally be on a ride of that length. I know that doesnt necessarily mean anything but I'm a little concerned I'd be getting more excercise and working a little harder on a normal ride

I think I'll up the percentage from 100% to 110% on Thursdays effort and see how I get on :okay:

I think it is so difficult to compare given the effect of drafting. Unless you were all on tt bikes?

Try a few mid distance races 15-20 miles. There is nothing better than a bit of competition to push you to max effort. This will give you a good indication if your FTP is set wrong.

FTP build can be a slow burn to start with, keep at it for a few more workouts to see if it's gets harder. if it doesn't use the race numbers to set ftp
