My parents have one of my old Apple TV 3s, which is now by all accounts obsolete. So they will probably get my old 2017 ATV4K at some point. Right now it is just in the shed as a streaming device and for the occasional run of MyWhoosh to see if it still starts on that old sucker.
Rumor has it that a new 4K model might be released this year, and I would hate buying the "current" 2022 model, if a new one is just around the corner... Already have a 4K 3rd gen in the living room, so not in a hurry.

I bought mine in 2021, so looks like an older model. I think I’ll wait for now too and upgrade if a new one is released.

I can always run MyWhoosh on my gaming spec laptop if I fancy seeing how it works (watching your and others feedback with interest 👍

Yeah I had the lowest watt/kg in my race out of 11. Very draftable climb.

I do agree though I have no business being at front of a climbing race! I reckon I'll get upgraded in next couple of races. It does actually help me do some climbing which is good tho!

Could depend on the quality of the field too I guess, and the draftability of the climb. At the moment though I get dropped like a brick on anything over a minute if the gradient is 5% plus.

As sprinters, you and I are not really built to climb fast

Apple have been promising a new box for quite sometime. They already have the hardware installed in the current box for 4k 120hz HDMi 2.1 which is theoretically capable of up to 10k, just haven't done the firmware upgrade/chipset. There has not been any murmurings about this updated box. There again apple do play it close to their chest re new models

Is there any news about graphics improvements for the Apple TV Zwift app? I was watching a video on YouTube of miscellaneous other games being played on an Apple TV 4k box and those games clearly showed that its hardware can cope with much more complex graphics.

Zwift will make their stuff work on a potato if they need to - they need paying users. Not much difference between an Apple TV and a PC with an RTX 4090 on that platform - except more frames per second (locked at 30 FPS on ATV).

But how detailed will they make it look on that potato?

I had assumed that the ATV box wasn't powerful enough to look much better than Zwift does through it, but then I saw this...



... which clearly demonstrates that Zwift could look better! (Yes, I know that there is more to it than just graphics quality, but it would be nice if they could make some significant improvements.)

Imagine if Apple put 8 GB RAM in their Apple TVs instead of the meager 3 GB (1st+2nd gen) / 4GB (3rd gen). But knowing Apple, this will not happen next time, unless they make an Apple TV Pro at a price premium.

I managed to get zwift running on my phone today and got a good 50 min session in , support are still sending emails suggesting fixes but im pretty sure its the driver /update issue that is well discussed on the zwift forum.
I do need to wear my reading glasses to see the screen and if i forget and try to wipe the sweat off my brow ............

If your phone supports hdmi output from the charge socket you can use a lead or better still screen mirroring via Bluetooth

no room for a screen where i have to use the turbo , literally set up in the kitchen by the back door and packed away when not in use

Stage 1 FRR done Out and back route 42km with the volcano climb in . Made a rookie error and entered the wrong pen the 1 above didn't realise until we set off and I was the only CAY in the village 😁, had a nice tow for 16km as I hung on but the first incline saw me dropped ,managed to TT back to 2 riders ,1 of whom I rode to the finish with the other smashed the first sprint then dropped then smashed the climb and caught us but dropped again . The CAY front group caught me after having starting a minute later on the descent of the volcano but I was too gassed to latch on . 53 of 56 on Zp in my pen my time would have put me around 20th in D pen. Did manage to match my 1 hour power PB of 205 watts or 2.8w/kg . Recovering for tomorrows Tair Dringfa Fechan route a nice short hilly 30km

Stage 2 of Flat is Fast this morning in the D race, stayed with the front group to the end, I knew I couldn't take on the sprinters so made an effort on the climb out of the tunnel, I was 1st at the top of the rise, but I had overcooked it, and was a bit breathless for the sprint, 10th place, 6th on Zwift Power, it's looks like I will be at the back of the race now as ZRS gone to 273.
