So Eric Schlange has tested the tri-spoke/disc combo available only as a prize in the Zwift Big Spin events, and it’s surprisingly come out as by far the worst wheelset in the game… because ZHQ assigned the wrong performance parameters. So the big question is, do we think that, when the promised tweak is made, it’ll be a worthwhile wheel to have? While I’m normally quite sanguine about the stuff that clogs up our garages, it would be cool to have a tri-spoke if the performance is comparable with the Zipp or DT Swiss disc wheelsets (my IRL TT setup is/was a pair of tri-spokes, and they’re brilliant).

I can’t imagine Zwift will make them the best wheels because for now they’re exclusively for The Big Spin, and, even then, only randomly allocated… unless, I suppose, they appear in the Drop Shop in due course…

Well they did it with the Meilensteins...

...until the Roval Alpinists came out

Can you not do it solo by turning manually?

It will be public before long I guess
I dont think you can do the events routes manually, only a few selected "rebel" routes. looking at old event routes quite often they dont go public.
Today I saw there was a 100KM event route the 2022 Gran Fondo, a group endurance ride, I did it for the training and also the badge. Well group C endurance , hmm endurance for some , flippin threshold for me. 151 started ony 36 finished and I was 35th. ( on z power only 21 finishers me being 21st ) The real kicker, I did the whole dam thing and did not get a route badge!!!! I was robbed guv.
A aside comment on this, it was supposed to be a endurance ride but there were 3 big hills one being the epic KOM at the end, some KOMs were treated like a race others they enforced the red fence to stop people legging it off the front, to me if it is a endurance ride then the whole dam thing should be between the stated w/kg in this case 2.5 to 2.8 . I was quite pissed off at the end going up the epic KOM on my lonesome. I understand for some they need to shove some power down once in a while to stop the boredom.
Got a 100KM PR of 3hr 3 mins

The problem with all these bikes, wheels etc, is that the Tron is still the best generalist bike by far for most races, and looks cool, so it's still the bike of choice.

I'm well out of the loop. Are there events with prizes now? What else can you get?

I got a nice black and white jersey, but I like my Wattbike jersey so doubt I will wear it.

If you don't feel like doing the ride but want to win free virtual stuff ?

I have start to ride more with Tacx training app and Rouvy. I felt that i need different stimulation to keep my indoor training motivation level high enough and video recorded routes do that very well for me. Yesterday i bought 3 bowling ball. Good change beside of indoor cycling.

I don't see TTs as races .. I see them as something to avoid

I have a theory that sprinty people don't like TTs all that much and that is the way it's meant to be.
You simply can't have both abilities in equal measure.
As time goes on I realise that my anaerobic ability is way better than aerobic, so that'll be why I like short smashy races and bollocks to anything needing a good FTP (by the way I'm doing a short smashy on Friday and a 70km mass start Chasing Sanremo on Saturday and planning to enjoy both.)

Exactly ... I've always struggled to hold a steady threshold power, I'm more surge and recovery (ex footy and rugby player, it's how my body developed as a kid!). I'm also a wheelsucker with that final 30 second burst.
Like you, love the smashy races. far more tactical too so not just a power ride where the strongest wins (that's also why I'm not keen on climbing races as you can pretty much say who's going to win before the start).
I'll do the longer races but to get fitter - I know at my current fitness level I'm not going to do well in hour plus races, but I'll give them a pop to improve the fitness.
Great that Zwift has all these different races though, something for everyone
