Next weeks smash is a different task, with longer climbs. I just hope I can hang in with Steven and Phil in my category, being lightweights

With all this chit chat about endurance, I thought I'd better see if I still have any.

Viking Sunday, just short of 65 miles

Nice steady relaxing pace for the first 30 miles.. As usual the red gate is dropped,

I decided I'd go with the front bunch, bloody hell they were quick. Straight to threshold effort. I thought I'd never be able to hold this for another 30 miles.

Lost connection at mile 48, I rode hard and when connection returned I was off the front, then it went a few miles later, this time I was just off the back of the pack, got back on. A few riders kept putting in strong accelerations, which eventually saw two break away(different cats). Thank goodness, the pace eased slightly.

Several riders were taking coffee breaks with less than 10 miles to go:cursing:

By now I couldn't stand, put was able to push fairly strong seated. I went with 300 yds to go, nearly took the bunch sprint, I used steering to dropp the draft and shorten the corner -pipped over the line by very strong 68kg 60yr old.

Absolutely foooked now. :B)
First hundred mile week in a very long time

Oh still have a bit of endurance left in me 💪

Nice one. I've signed up for the Chasing Tour. I won't be doing the stage races, but I will try to do as many of the 1-day classics as I can. They've rejigged how they do the categories this year (Amethyst/Platinum are C) Last year as a gold 1 I had to compete with Gold 2 and 3 as well in the B Pen and it was too hard.

I think the first Classic starts a week on Saturday. https://chasingtour.com/calendar

Having completely mis-paced my Alpe effort last Sunday, I rode the Mountain Massif event again this afternoon with the intention of just pacing it better. One other ‘B’ disappeared up the road and, although I held him to 15s or so for a long time, he seemed to speed up towards the top and clocked a time of 45:35! But he must not have been registered on ZwiftPower because I took my first 🏆 since last summer with a time of 47:01, my second-fastest ever and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Nice effort. I haven’t had a real crack at the Alpe since early 2020 and before my vEverest. I’m for Mallorca again in April and I’d like to have a go at my PB on Sa Calobra (set when I was a mere 38yo in 2016). I plan to give the Alpe a blast as preparation and pacing it as best as possible.

Did you Try to hold a power that would have left you empty at the summit or was it a case of upping the power towards the end?

Pushed quite hard at the start because I wanted to hang onto as many wheels as I could… then just tried to keep around 300W. W’bal ‘only’ down to 7.2 but I don’t think that my capacity is anywhere near 25.9kJ at the moment…

Pfft! I did 100 miles/ 161 km yesterday on Zsunr base training ride. Small group of 20 or so whittled down to 7 riders so little if the draft benefit of a robopacer-lesson learnt. I used a coffee stop after 110km and seemed to be working fine and then bike came to a standstill. I had to do the remainder of the ride solo. Legs like Bambi today but rest of me is ok. My piece meal training plan seems to be working.

Just looked at your ride Bob, your aerobic fitness is excellent. The power remained constant throughout your ride and HR also was very flat in comparison to the effort. :notworthy:

Thanks Andy.
I now have a secret recovery weapon- a sauna! The cheapest one you can buy from Robert Dyas. Always loved a sauna and really nice to get into it post session/workout. You must have one? Or at least room to fit one in?
