FRR Stage 6. I somewhat recovered from the fatigue by sleeping until 11am and felt pretty good today. I managed to stay with the monsters through Hilly Reverse and improved my PR by about 30s  Best 5 minute power ever (342W / 5.1W/kg - previous best was 4W less). I was still with them at the foot of Volcano but refused to stay (no chance against A+ pack on a segment that long) and dropped back to second bunch, which was doing a very reasonable pace. I did the hill 4s slower than a few days ago but felt much, much better at the banner. The rest was very non-eventful, my group was actually pushing a good pace - right up there for me - I had to work hard to stay on but managed until the finish; had a bit left to do the sprint. Nothing left for the Hilly Forward at the end though so just pootled the last 2k. Really glad about the rest day :becool:

[EDIIT]: 5th in the green jersey classification. Happy with that, all things considered.

Just checked, my last 18(!) rides of any type have all been races, with the one before that a fairly steady climb portal effort and the majority crits. That can't be good for base stamina...

Very time crunched at the minute so usually just picking a race that happens soon and will be over quickly. Wonder how long before power takes a nose dive
I would not worry too much
It will keep your fitness, trickling along nicely.

I too are timed crunched, but I find 2 races and a few weight sessions keeps me around 85%. I found the weight sessions really beneficial

Stage 6 FRR survived , I had a dreadful night's sleep woke with a headache and felt off all day . The plan was to start and just see ,after yesterday efforts the start was steady which suited me got to the hilly reverse were it spread out but I wasn't to far off the front as we crested ,Group 2 on the road to the Volcano and much to my surprise I matched my time from earlier in the tour . Had to wait for a group on the descent , As we made our way up the Epic to the jungle I just rode everyone off my wheel , On the descent into the jungle the group of 6 had to work hard to get me back . On the climb 3 of us a cat above and another in my cat dropped them and we never saw them again . We all worked together until the last climb where the higher Cat dropped us and me and my Cat slugged it out . I won the sprint over the crest then drafted her to the finish , left my sprint late 150m and didn't quite get round her so 36th , 2.5w/kg which considering how I felt all day was a surprise , thank god a rest day

One of the things I like about IndieVelo if you want a race in 10 minutes, set one up, race the bots and have a blast...

@Whorty I think you will love the IndieVelo elimination races once you get back into things. It's pure surge and recovery intervals. Made for you.
I set this one up today. Just 10 laps of the velodrome. Balls out effort for 6m30 against the bots.

Sadly not yet, although they are hoping one day. It's only one guy developing it so he's been focussed on the product itself rather than all of the platforms. I'd been waiting to try it until I got my new MBP. In terms of racing, it's a great platform, but obviously not as polished as Zwift.
Latest update to IndieVelo includes a brand new world and a 1000m climb, apparently.

Back to the FRR grindstone ,stage 7 done 38km ITT ocean lava loop times 2 , Annoyingly missed the top 10 by .1 sec in a sprint finish . Went out hard , probably to hard 3w/kg for the first 20 mins held around this until the 2nd time up part off the epic KOM and blew going up the drag until the descent at this point I noticed the rider behind closing fast but I still had 30sec in hand 8.5km to go ,can .I hold it ?.Rested as much as I dare on the descent then just pushed what I could until the end . He caught me with 500m to go I hung on and kicked with 200mts to go be he had enough to hold me off just ,Well paced that man . Not sure how the time will stack up in GC , after stage 6 I had dropped to 57th hoping to get back inside the top 50

I'm doing mine at 6 o'clock. Did do my homework and have a power plan. Part of the plan is to leave something for the sprints tomorrow so I won't be going 100%.

We did this route as an ITT in the FRR before - on 23 June 2023 - but the second lap wasn't full (stage ended at the Epic bypass). First lap back then was 29:33 so I'll be hoping to beat that today - ideally twice, for a sub-60 minute finish.

[EDIT]: I really like the fact that the A pen starts last in the ITT. Very satisfying to overtake so many people ;)

Good luck , think I did around 32mins 1st lap then 36min for 2nd so went too hard to start hence losing the time at the end .
Tomorrows is hard to work out doing ok in the sprints not as well as you , Do I sprint to stay with the front of the race ? Or let them go and try and reel them back in up the climb and radio tower

Well done Phil and gppd luck Pete.

I see FRR are encouraging riders to race tomorrow even if they have missed some of the rides. I may do so in my fancy new orthotics courtesy of a podiatrist who managed to make my left hamstring and calf cramp today
