Great result there Pete 7th. 👍
Cheers, Andy. There were only around 30 riders. Happy with the Fox Hill time of under 6 minutes, or about 40s quicker than what I did on that Tour de Splitters stage a few months back. Didn't have a big group for the sprint, so the time through that could be better. Still, right up there and holding on to the green jersey.

Fastest time up Fox yesterday was 4.35 . The guy who won average 5.1W kg for the whole event

It's that time of year when people come back to Zwift. This year it's a bit worse because of the way they've tweaked the categories.

I had an Emerald in my C race this morning. That would be Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst, Platinum. 3 categories above me in DRS, but the same category in ZRL (although he was in a winning ZRL B team last season).

In other news I only managed 11th in the first Tiny Race, but did beat my Leg Snapper PR by 1s (now 45.53, probably due to the feather PU).

My result from yesterday was skewed with so many A+, A and B riders. You couldn't separate them post race. Only reviewing each rider for category listing

There were a few C cat riders who seem to have slipped through the Zwift rankings with 3.4 60 min power from yesterday. I presume they will be promoted in a few races.

The TLI National Road Race Championships was one of my A races. It was a 50ish mile road race near Wrexham and most of the big hitters were on the start list. It was an interesting circuit of just under 9 miles. It comprised some dual carriageway, some roads around an Industrial Estate and some rural roads with plenty of farm dertritus spread on them. It was pretty flat with a bit of a drag up towards the final roundabout. On the final lap, It was straight on at the final roundabout rather than left down the dual carriageway and there was 1km to go from that point finishing with a 250m climb averaging 8.2%.

All the over 60’s raced together and there were about 45-50 of us rolling out into the Cheshire sunshine. It was neutralised until we crossed the River Dee (is that where England becomes Wales?)

It was a slow start with nobody wanting to make the pace and pretty soon John Davidson (Reifen) made a jump on his own and got away from the pack. Still we weren’t inclined to chase. Various combinations made half hearted attempts at getting away or getting a chase going but nothing was full blooded. I was staying near the front and being part of any chase but trying not to do my usual of working too much.

Dave Smith (Solihull) and Jeremy Adamson got a slight gap and I quickly jumped on together with another rider. Deano (Echelon) made a big effort to join us and we had a gap.

We set off after John and soon 5 became 4. A marshal shouted that John had a lead of 1min 40 secs which we thought we could close. We got into a great through and off routine with everyone pulling their weight and after 24 miles we caught John who joined us and fair play took his turns straight away.

We continued working well together, it helped that 4 of us knew each other fairly well, and we did our fastest lap at this point.

Into the final lap and our pace dropped a bit as we started thinking about the finish. We hit the 2.5 mile drag along the Wrexham Rd and were all holding a bit back. John jumped off the front on the incline before the last roundabout – we played chicken as to who was going to chase him and then Jeremy set off with us on his tail.

We caught and passed John and approached the 90 degree right hander onto the finishing stretch. I went to the left side of the road so I could carry more momentum into the turn. Then under the bridge and the road kicked up. The Strava segment says 0.16 miles at 8.2%. I had recced this finish the day before and selected a gear to use. I think today I used a bigger one though and did my best 20 – 26 second power in 2023

I dug in and went past Dave and Jeremy but at the same time I was passed by John Davison and ........Mike Twelves. What, where had he come from?

I heard Jeremy sportingly yelling encouragement at me and I kept pushing, waiting for Deano to come past, but he didn't, maybe his earlier cramps were real

So I finished with a bronze, which kind of made up for the slight disappointment at the World's 2 weeks ago.

Apparently we had a 1min 30 lead at the start of the final lap. With 3 miles to go, Mike had jumped off the chasing pack and soloed up to us, catching us right at the death and going over the top to take the win. Chapeau.

Nice write up. Sounds like that Twelves fella saved energy throughout and then pounced at the end. Would love to see the video of that uphill finish.

Cheers.

Mike Twelves is an awesome cyclist. He has a top 10 in the Tour of Britain (when it was The Milk Race) back in the day. He was favourite on the startline. Gutted he caught us but it was an amazing effort to do so and our own fault for slowing up a tad.

There were a few people taking pics so I hope there may be some finish pics or even a vid. I'd love to see one as well

You need a GoPro Martin. :okay:

You can get combo bike nav and GoPro mount underneath.
