Hi Martin, I'd like to have a go at racing, however considering how much skin and subsequent recovery time Shaun (fellow oldie @ Dambuster's) left on Lincolnshire's roads, Nah.

I'll leave it to the crazies, hardcore racers :okay:

Zwift subscription for the summer

You tend to find that racers know how to ride fast safely in a pack. Especially the Masters.

Sportive riders..... not so much

@Norry1 , are you still doing the race at the TOC in a couple of weeks?

Ah! Racing! Completely forgot to post this over the weekend.

Flamme Rouge Racing are organising a weekly racing series. Starting this Friday. A few details:

  • Seven events split over Friday and Saturday - your first raced event counts each week
  • Friday (BST) 0600 / 1030 / 1800 Saturday 0200 / 1030 / 1400 / 1930
  • One racing PEN
  • NINE (9) Rider Classifications (FRHC)
  • Rider class determined by the FRR World Order race performance - and nothing else
  • Top 6 rider results each week count for your Team/Club
  • Same Points structure for all FRHC levels
  • iTT and Points races only - No TTT
  • No power ups, but use the equipment you've earned
  • Yellow (Total Points NOT time), POLKA and Green jersey tables for each rider Class
  • Best 6 results to count from the Series though points will depreciate over time so keep racing
  • All events are public an on the Companion App for everyone to find
They should announce what the course for this coming weekend is soon.

If you already have an FRR account and are interested: Just log in, edit profile, tick 'World Order' under event registration section. Done.

Sure am. 60-64 Group.

I'm down for the Gran Fondo, as is Rich who you met at the Cheddar meetup ride. Bit concerning that the routes haven't been confirmed yet and there's no info been sent out about the logisitics and timings etc on the day yet, but assuming the event does still go ahead we'll have to try and meet up before the rides for a coffee or something if we can?

Yep that would be good. Rich was a good lad as I recall  Will see what works when they issue the timetable.

Very concerning about the routes, smacks of them having an issue they haven't yet resolved.

Yeah all the info on routes and rider info etc was sent out at least 3 weeks before the event previously and now it's less than 2 weeks to go - oh well, fingers crossed...

As you say, it is a little concerning that there's so little info when we're that close to the date. Also given the race is now 66 miles instead of 100 and the other long-ish event (which was what I originally signed up for) has also been slightly reduced in length, it does smack of them having trouble getting the road closures signed off or something like that. Maybe it's these sorts of behind the scenes hassles that are the real reason why they're calling it a day after this year?

Not that I should complain too much about not getting to do the full mileage - I've been really struggling with my health (both physical and mental) the past few months and have not been able to put in anywhere near the amount of time on the bike I should have done. Yesterday was my first ride over 50 miles in over two months and I've only done one over 60 miles all year (and that was February). Will see if I can get a long ride done next weekend as my final warm-up.

World Order will trial eGAP resulting which is expected to be the answer to the Tour GC question.

eGAP = FRHC Winners in each event will receive maximum points, all other riders will be combined across the events and ranked based on their event time gap to their event FRHC race winner.
"

That looks interesting. WOnder how well it'll work?

Ah, didn't realise you were going too Steve - will be good to meet up with you too. Sorry I haven't been paying much attention but I had remembered Martin saying he was doing the race a while ago. Is anyone else on here planning to go (if it's still on!)?

I was actually quite disappointed about the reduction in distance. It can be quite a fast ride and when we did it in 2018 I did 79 miles in 3:24 so at that pace 66 miles would only take around 3 hours - and it's quite a long way to go for a 3 hour ride! Also, I preferred the ride when it split up a bit towards the end and I think with this shorter distance it might remain quite busy for most or all of the ride.

But this is an entry I originally bought in 2019 and has been pushed along for 4 years due to Covid and then the jubilee - and as it's going to be the last one I'm quite determined to get it done whatever!

Yes, it does look interesting. I think that, at least on paper, it's an attempt at eliminating differences between group sizes (and thus stage times) across different time slots. In practice it should work like this:
- 0600 GHT rider A wins 54min 30s, second place rider X was 54min 40s – eGAP 10s
- 1030 GHT rider B wins 53min 21s, second place rider Y was 53min 35s – eGAP 14s
- Rider A and B each earn max finishing points for winning their class in their event
- Rider X comes second as their event gap (eGAP) was 10 seconds
- Rider Y comes third as their eGAP was 14 seconds
I'm not really all that interested in the GC standings. Will race because I know FRR has top quality fields - best I've seen on Zwift to date. Almost 300 people signed up already and one starting PEN across all categories guarantees to push me to the limit.

Seems the way with events, last minute information for the attendees. A bit off putting

The last two times I did it they released all the rider info and routes etc. at least 3 weeks in advance, and the website says the routes should have been confirmed last week. It's only 10/11 days away now so is a bit concerning...

Speaking of route details. First stage of FRR weekly is Tire-Bouchon - shortened to 40km but still tackling Petite from both directions - including one at the very start. Oof.

Just done Petit this morning in the DRS after party points race.
Bit different from ZRL. No finish points. Casse Pattes only three FTS segments. Points across the board...

Marina Reverse
Aqueduc
Petit KoM

So it was really a bimble and smash race. I got 4th, 3rd and 13th in Gold 1 on the segments for overall bronze

I think that format suits me as you get to recharge your weebles properly between segments
