Strong Result there Alex, team did brilliantly too. You were super strong up the climbs :okay:

Shame you were mugged on the downhill by the chasing pack. If you'd just managed to hang onto your team mates over the kom and into the descent 8th was yours

The Chasing pack was AHDR (I call them ADHD. WMZ are WMD too ) they were ahead of us up climb 1 but they blew up on climb 2. I managed to just stay ahead of their 4th guy though to the finish.

My team are all a bit better than me, currently. They've been racing ZRL in B. But hopefully I'll get a bit stronger and they'll drag me up.
I suppose doing 96% for nearly an hour can't help but get stronger. Need a nice zone 2 outside to balance it, now.

We've got the Muckle Yin next week. FALs on both Braes and FTS up the Sgurr. But, as ever, finish points are worth a lot more.
Course profile should suit us again though.

Great result Pete:okay:
Cheers, Andy. Just looked up the numbers from yesterday and it was my 5 min. PB by 2W. Quite happy with that.

Looks like I'm top 10 in GC too, at least at this point.

I think I've read somewhere that next month's series will be a tour of all the crit circuits. Sounded very tempting. Anyone have more details?

I saw them on Zwifthacks. Crit city, glasgow crit, neokyo crit and LaGuardia are the ones I remember

If anyone is looking for a good location for your next cycling holiday, it is well worth considering Calpe. Until last year I’d never heard of it but it is used by many of the World Tour teams for their pre and post season training and is a bit of a mecca for cyclists but without being as packed (with bikes) as places like Mallorca. It is about 40 miles north of Alicante and 65 miles south of Valencia.

I went with 3 other guys and we stayed in the Suitopia Hotel which coincidentally was the same hotel I stayed in for my ill-fated trip last year.

My targets for the week were to ride 20 hours, do 1,000 TSS and beat my time up the marque climb in the area – the Coll de Rates. Roy also wanted me to do a 90 second max effort to fill a gap on my power curve.

The weather was perfect, being sunny 90% of the time and between 20-23 degrees most of the day. It felt warmer due to the bright sun – and my cycling tan lines are now firmly re-established.

We were fairly evenly matched as riders which helped and the riding was great.

I finished with 21 hours cycling, a TSS of 1,195 and 323 miles on the clock .... oh and 21,000ft+ climbing.

On the Coll de Rates I managed a 22:09 which took 3:46 off last year’s time which I was pretty pleased with.

I had a bash at the 90 second max effort and did raise my power to 414W but this was when I was pretty fatigued at the end of the week. I “accidentally” set a new post-op 1 minute power of 514W during an aborted earlier attempt at the 90 second target.

So overall it was a great week. Great roads and cycling. Perfect weather; great hotel and food; great craick with the guys and an excellent “training” block.

I’ll post a few pics later.

Part of my lack of enthusiasm for Tenerife trip or anywhere else, I'm just not interested in flying abroad
Flying abroad or going abroad?

Plenty of places you can get to on a ferry.

It's more flying than anything else Pete. Just got out of the habit and hearing folk generally coming down with COVID often, doesn't appeal. I not worried about COVID, just don't like becoming unnecessarily ill, when I can easily avoid it.

Wife keeps mentioning doing the Rhine tour, which does appeal to me. Cruising along on Ebikes, seeing the sights, castles etc. Just need to research getting us down to Switzerland one way

I like flying, but absolutely hate airports - annoy the crap out of me.

For Rhine: You can jump on a ferry from Hull to Hook of Hollalnd. Then, just follow other rivers through Netherlands (mostly Waal) until you get to Rhine. Not sure where the 'tour' part starts? Is it the whole length of the river?
