Is that really a genuine suggestion?

I’d of thought with the company you keep in the c team there would be easier advice on how to remain inside a catergories limits ;)

Honestly - yes, what other options do you have to race with your team mates. You could become less fit, but adding 14 lbs is nothing, won't do anything to your health given how thin you're currently.

Only downside is you might have to talk to Bob when in the Pyrenees. The upside you won't have to talk to Lee, cos he'll be miles in front

Liken it to a champion boxer who has no competitors in their weight category, so move up or down to join their sparring buddies :okay:

This might be a surprise to your average CCC member. But there’s more to life than trying to stay within a category boundary on zwift.

All jokes aside I don’t miss racing the wrtl as much as I thought I would. I’ve been really busy at the moment generally so I’m not sure I’d be able to make a lot of the races on Tuesdays if I wanted to. And it’s also kind of freed my mind to focus on trying to get fitter for proper cycling that I’m aiming for in the summer rather than the 30 minute blasts.

In terms of my weight I’ve never actually tried to lose weight. I know you like to sort of do focused diets in stops and starts and kind of yo yo a bit (I think that’s a fair assessment?). But my weight is just a reflection of the exercise I do through work and cycling and the fact I don’t over eat in general. I think I could actually weigh less believe it or not! Both kipster and legs are around my height and often both lighter than me. But I drink alcohol more than I should maybe… and am often tempted by packs of biscuits and deserts in restaurants.

Thanks for showing an interest though 👍

Well that is ok then, I thought you were missing all the Tuesday night fun and games. Talking of outside, I've been asked to do a sportive this summer. I know, I know, I'll have to ask Bob how to do steady Z2 workouts to gain sportive fitness 😁

I will be doing this training on my turbo

Interesting discussion on these Segment Battle points for the ZRL that I've just been catching up on - they're leaving it rather late again though aren't they?!

I do tentatively think they're a good idea, but we'll have to see how it works in practice.

To be honest I don't think it will change too much in terms of how the people in our team race, except for the fact that even if you're outside of the top 10 on the road it's now probably worth your while contesting your position through segments, whislt before you'd have just cruised through in whatever group you were in.

By far the biggest issue is getting a full team of 6 in the race each week!

That's the one thing I don't like doing indoors - long rides. Anything over 1.5-2 hours, you can keep. Outdoors is so much nicer for the long stuff. Can't wait really to get out there again. Still got 81 of the '100 climbs' left to do. Hope to make a dent in that this year.

Yes it's really aggravating.

Exactly that! Should give the guys in the second half of the race something to keep trying for other than, say a difference of 1 in their finish points.

Similar. The teams which have 4 people in the top 20, their riders 3 & 4 will get a lot of easy points just by staying at the front. But they would have been the teams with all the FALs anyway, usually.

Yes that becomes an even more important thing. And the more important, the larger the number of teams in your league. We've got 15, so 1st across the line in group 6 (as for all of them) is worth potentially 90 points if you can do it for all 6 segments.

This segment racing just seems alien to me - am I right in thinking that if I blitz round a course at full tilt I will be beaten on points by someone just trying on segments ?

If you "blitz round a course at full tilt" for a 40+minute race with 100 or so participants not only would you probably get beaten by someone just trying on segments, but also by everyone else who raced more sensibly and conserved their energy for the key points and finish of the race* :okay:

*unless you only do ITTs or races up Alpe du Zwift, which come to think of it are probably your "go to" races

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the logic of putting on weight for the sake of racing on zwift. You do make me laugh sometimes Andy  👍

Which sportive is it?

I know what you mean. But this weekend I was also reminded what a god send it is this time of year. Minus 2 on Sunday. I can say from experience how bloody miserable that can be outside.

I think sometimes it’s maybe too tempting just to jump on the turbo. But others times it’s worth it’s weight in gold!

I wouldn't take my advice! When i went from knee op, 8 weeks in a leg brace and then 5 months later beating Tommy's time up the Iseran () i did z2 just to get things working for about a month and then a sufferfest plan with loads of outside riding. I could barely push 120 watts at first but we have all been doing this long enough that the fitness does come back. Living in london it takes a lot of short high intensity bursts from traffic light to traffic to get out of the suburbs and into the country, even to Richmond or Regents park. So z2 persuant to plan more sensible on the turbo when tolerable.
