I bought my forerunner 255 mainly for the overnight hrv readings. They’re a reasonable indicator of overall stress (physical and mental). I was taking spot readings first thing in the morning for a couple of months prior to that and found the data fairly unreliable, hence wanting overnight numbers.

Body battery seems a reasonable indication, but I have yet to fully trust it. Sometimes these numbers can be downright discouraging - particularly if you’re a bit excited the night before a big ride.

It's more a trend I take note. I've had two great nights sleep and a few poor nights last week. The data must be fairly accurate, it reports how I slept. This HRV will just bolster the overall body battery functionality. Hospital does.

You blasphemer, it's the new God in training ;)

😁
Doesn’t it very much depend on the accuracy of whatever you use to monitor? While I kind of trust the Apple Watch hr readings I see enough variation compared to the other hrm I have to suggest hrv accuracy would be adversely affected.

I held off buying a watch until I found it could last. My Fenix 6 Solar last easily a month between charges
I would assume the 'solar' means it has photovoltaic cells?

That old watch of mine has an internal pendulum so it winds itself up as you make movements with your wrist/arm. Do any of those 'smart' watches have something similar?

Not that I'm aware of. The screens are not generally OLED, darker in appearance

. That and solar give it decent battery life.

I had contemplated changing my F6 for the F7, but Garmin has upgraded the older models with much of the same features as their newest model. So my deep pockets are safe:biggrin:

I know and have heard the watches aren't so accurate when recording data during activity. But when the person is still or little movement-sleeping the recording is more accurate. I now let my watch collect HR data when racing from my Wahoo Tickr.

On collecting data

Ive also been using a glucose monitor, for continuous information attached to my skin for 3 months.

Very interesting to see what food types, how they interact with each other. What activity or non activity effects glucose levels. Also how your body copes with intermittent fasting.

I understand far more than I've ever been told by a GP.

This is the craziest scenario, insulin resistance is rarely discussed, but is the precursor for many years before pre diabetes, weight gain and other conditions surface.

There is a test for insulin resistance. I asked if I could get or pay for this test. My doctor's said no- unless you are diagnosed with diabetes-wtf.

A test they could do decades before you get life/qualty of life changing condition.

USA is not much further ahead of the game, but at least you can request this test. Saying that the experts reckon over 90 million of the US population are Insulin resistance. Carbohydrate excess!

Eat saturated fats, quality proteins and lots of leafy vegetables.

I try and eat steaks 3 times a week, have a dozen eggs, butter with everything, all consumed in a 4 hour window each day.

Gosh I've gone off on a ranting tangent

Don't get me started on cholesterol

I did D Pace Partner ride today and it was bit of confusing situation when after 40min ride there was 2 D Pace Partners in a same bunch. Didn't realize that first, just wondering why Pace Partner suddenly increased the pace. Didn't last long when I noticed I was 1min ahead the other Pace Partner where I should be....it happens. Anyway not a bad first easy ride after Covid, heart rate stay nicely under control and it was moderate.

Have a read, if you have not already, of the pioppi diet by Dr Malhotra. I did after my heart issues last year and then a stupidly high cholesterol reading. The word diet is a funny one. Doesn’t feel like a diet and the science appears sound. Anyway, I have rejected my GP’s insistence I take statins despite the text reminders!

i fear my views on weight loss and all things nutrition might be deemed a little simplistic in a world where every thing is sold in monetised form. But if I eat more than I burn as fuel then I put on weight. If I eat less than I need, I believe they call this running at a deficit I lose weight. If I eat food that is not good fuel then I get nothing from it other than perhaps the pleasure of consuming it. Am I missing something?

Why do we have to make it anymore complicated? I feel like it’s because you can’t make a sellable book out of that paragraph. But as I say, maybe I’m missing something. Maybe crack open a pack of cookies while sploshing down a sugary drink and tell where I’m going wrong 😄
