I just checked what items are available on the way up from level 50 to level 60. Very original items, nothing really tempting or reasons to go level 60, that is only my opinion.

Well... Zwift levels kind of 'just happen' so not sure why they would need to incentivise it.

True, that. By the time you’re level 50, you’ve probably decided if you like Zwifting or not, but certainly, at the lower levels it’s nice to get stuff that actually helps you do better in the game.

I imagine that a good many of the people who have reached L50 with >500,000 XP are also >750,000 XP and so will just jump straight to being stuck at L60 (just with more crap in their wardrobe)...

I think the way they are doing it, it's a 'double up' ... so you don't automatically jump to the highest level, you need to earn XP but this will double until you run out of banked XP (correct me if I'm wrong).

But as many say, not a great deal to incentivise here ... it will be what it is, I'll ride anyway and just keep upping the levels until I'm 60 (level, not age ... I'm not that old

I guess some users like to keep Zwift as a game genre and they want to have more some kind of bonus material which isn't very important and nothing to do to increase your fitness, you can only look cool or little bit silly on Zwift depending your avatar's appearance. We'll see how the Zwift is gonna look in a future. I guess it's good that Zwift includes everything for everyone.

Pretty sure 42 is the last level where you actually get something useful - the best disc wheels and now that Cadex TT bike.
