I think this was already kind of known but just to confirm, the race tonight is officially cancelled (unless someone else wants to set it up of course, but I think you'll be quite lonely!) due to everyone getting excited about a bit of UK warmth and sunshine!

I'm planning on a mountain bike ride later up on some dry trails on the Mendips - the sort of ride that would usually finish with a nice couple of beers in a pub garden, but that part will need to wait for a bit yet....

Just bring a couple of tinnies.

They'll be nice and tepid, and explode when you open them.

Very jealous of all the retiring and general days in the sun everyone is having! 35ish years left for me till retirement and 4 days of sun a year here!
Currently work 2 days a week but would prefer that to go up an extra day, at least until we can travel again  Ideal would be 6 months on, 6 months off (somewhere hot). I guess we all need a dream :okay:

I had planned to get out for a couple of hours this afternoon. But after returning from the beach from a good walk with Mrs Rob and the dog, a few beers in the garden this afternoon in the garden proved too tempting.

Must get out in the morning though or I’m going to regret missing the early taste of summer on the bike 👿

I tried for the classic under/over pacing strategy. Pressed on the pedals at the foot of the climb and nothing happened, so I ended up with under/under!

I don’t know what your pre race routine is like but for me races like that need a long warm up. Or by the time my legs have joined the party the race is already finished.

what’s your warmup routine then @<Tommy> ?

I tend to warm up in the pen, just rolling until approx 15 minutes to go. Then I spend 10 minutes warming up, first with high rpm work but gradually increasing power up to threshold to push my HR up and get a bit of a sweat on. At that point (approx five mins to go) I take off any jacket/gloves/hat and get the fan on. A couple of harder efforts but only short (15-20s) then nothing for the last minute or two.

One thing I would like to see in Zwift is the ability to complete a warmup workout in the pens with ERG for a bit more structure.

It depends on a few things for me bud. The type of race, how much time I have. And also how tired I feel after work. I try and work my warm up around those three things mainly I think.

I’d done two ToW events in quick succession in the afternoon and, in spite of telling myself that the second was going to be a recovery ride, it turned out to be a bit racy...

For a short event, Bologna TT is a bit more forgiving for not having a full warmup, since the optimal pacing strategy is to ride below threshold for the first 6km.

Back outside today, but probably stay local. I have a little loop that is about as flat as it gets around here. 14km loop with about 100m climbing so not too different to ToC will be (I think that's c.900m over 100 miles). Not sure how many laps I'll do, but hoping to keep ave speed up near 29-30kph - if I can, given road junctions and no one to draft, I'll be quite pleased with that :okay:
