Forgot to mention, I retired from work officially as of yesterday - so I anticipate my cycling mileage to increase somewhat

@Whorty ....... Cheddar Gorge isn’t as bad as the graphic depicted by Komoot.
Yes it does climb, but apart from one steep bend it’s fairly gradual and gets easier the higher you get !
Living in Bristol the Mendips are a popular destination and several Audaxes cross them with The Tasty Cheddar 100K being the most popular, it’s a pan flat 50K ride out of Bristol, then tackles the Gorge & the climb up to Hinton Blewitt, before returning to the Harbourside.
As @bridgy mentioned Burrington Coombe is another great climb and is used for the Bristol South CC Hill Climb event every Autumn, in normal times a very colourful and noisy event, its probably my favourite Hill Climb in the region.

Just looked on Strava and it suggests the time I had the bail the gradient was 22% to 30% .... so given I was already on my last legs I'm not that surprised. I don't feel too bad either now having to walk that last little bit!I bonked about 70km in, and had to do the walk of shame on the hill at 86km (I was about 10 metres short of the top and my legs just screamed out to stop

Cheers Tommy. I have been looking forwrad to this, and I've had a really easy 2 year rundown but it still hit me (unexpectedly) when the day actually arrived.
The weather today makes me even more pleased I've done it
I think this was already kind of known but just to confirm, the race tonight is officially cancelled (unless someone else wants to set it up of course, but I think you'll be quite lonely!) due to everyone getting excited about a bit of UK warmth and sunshine!
I'm planning on a mountain bike ride later up on some dry trails on the Mendips - the sort of ride that would usually finish with a nice couple of beers in a pub garden, but that part will need to wait for a bit yet....
