How did you find it up until that point @kipster ?

Was that a one off session for you, or have you done it before/after? Sounds like I will be renting if I give it a go then (will drop hints around my birthday!)

Thanks @Whorty - I will use the standard tyres to begin with (37mm “all terrain”) and hopefully they’ll be sturdy enough. Only thing I’m thinking about doing straight away is dyno hub and lights, plus guards and rack. Definitely won’t look as sleek as @<Tommy> ‘s stealth fighter!

I’m going to have to wait for stock availability and the C2W application window to align, hopefully that’ll be spring 🙏
I got mine 2nd hand off ebay for £225 - came with guards but I binned those. Then added the new tyres as I wasn't sure on the state of the existing ones and I quite like the Conti tyres. Not that sleek like Tommys but I can cruise close to 20 mph without too much effort on flatter roads. I stayed SS rather than FS though as it lets me rest on the downs

They generally want you to hire their bikes if you don't have a dedicated track bike, they are normally fairly good but all use look pedals in my experience

I know the one in Stratford they’re fine if you swap the wheels out. But thinking about it they might draw the line at having brakes on the bike. It’d definitely need to be a track frame.

I like to think of myself as a bit of an innovator and put my engineering degree to some use...unveiling the Apple TV remote guard (ATVRG Mk I) ... Now retailing for 47p... I’ll be taking orders online shortly 😙

I find calshot a bit short as a velodrome, but as an intro it's fine. Just don't go when it's cold as it gets a load on condensation and feels like it's raining. I tend to go to Newport (south Wales) now, the longer track is really good. I would advise to have a coached session, they get you doing skills to build trust in yourself and other around you.

Did 8 days of training in a row - felt awful after the session on Monday night. It was down at 86 stress points which looks like the most in this training program.

Took a break yesterday and feel a bit more rested today, so we'll see how it goes.

I really don't think I can push myself as hard on the road as on the trainer, maybe because I know if I bonk on the trainer I don't have to drag myself home?

Well done on the motivation - but rest and recovery is really, really important. Most of us have made the mistake of not resting enough and it comes back to bite us.

I agree turbos are spot on for most training sessions.

Yes it's quite common to find the trainer harder per hour than the road

I don't know how fit or used to training you are, but eight days of training is a row is a lot! Remember, your body only improves during rest periods so without it you won't improve... in addition to that, if you get run down you are more likely to lose motivation, get ill, and possibly see your fitness decline! So take care and remember to give yourself a rest.

After 8 days straight, it is almost certain that the best thing you can do to improve performance now is rest...

Edit - completely agree with @Norry1

I've just posted a blog about our TTT effort in the WTRL Zwift Racing League last night if anyone wants to read it. The video is there also.

Just about recovered.

Great write up Martin - I enjoyed reliving that a bit more than actually doing it! And great predictions too!

Everyone did great last night - a few places we could have been a bit slicker and a few seconds lost at the start (yet another lesson learnt!) but on the whole it was great. And everyone certainly gave it everything. That has to be one of your highest average power figures for a race of that length right? You were so determined last night - as well ast the start you got slightly distanced a couple of other times I noticed and I thought it might be over for you but each time you fought back and were soon back up the front taking another hard turn

I'm really enjoying these TTTs with Team #23. It helps that we're all pretty similar riders in terms of our average wkg so it's a genuine team effort with shared workload - plus the added incentive of having a lead to protect in the league makes it more fun too!

Haven't seen any updates on how it went for Team #68 - how did it go for you guys?

Sorry, we've kind of kept the post-mortem within our own thread - it didn't go particularly well.

We were going in with a slightly weakened team anyway and then it didn't help that we lost two riders in the pens due to technicals (stuck on pairing screens and unscheduled updates) pushing us down to four riders, of which I was the slowest and so the others had to ride at my pace. Which would have been fine if I was able to perform at the level I know I should be able to, but I had an absolute shocker - watts all over the place and about 0.2w/kg down on typical power (0.3 down on my best).

And then in the last half mile we lost another rider due to internet problems, meaning we thought we might get DQ'd due to only three finishers - luckily it came back just as he was crossing the line and thankfully he appeared in the ZwiftPower results, so we did end up getting a time.

Amazingly we didn't finish last! I don't have access to the WTRL results page so can't confirm the full details, but we did catch a team that started a minute ahead of us - and by catch I mean finish bang slap in the middle of their team! I do have a video, but it ain't pretty - have shared it on our thread, but can post it here if there's demand.
